SKILLS before DRILLS!
History
Established in 2010.
Our Founder «The Hot Flash», a veteran of Rat City Roller Girls and the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds, saw a need for skaters to learn the sport of roller derby and started teaching roller derby classes through the Seattle Parks and Recreation department, then added our Bellevue League and Tacoma Leagues.
We are paving the way for mainstream roller derby by working with USA Roller Sports (USARS), which is recognized by the US Olympic Committee.
Currently, we are teaching skills, fitness and core roller derby techniques through the City of Seattle Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Bellevue and N. Seattle Community College in the Seattle market. With adequate funding, this model will be expanded.

Business Owner
Donna Kay; CEO and founder of OWRD is an eight year veteran of the sport of modern competitive roller derby (her avocation) and is striving to make a difference for people and the sport of roller derby overall by implementing leagues in Western Washington and beyond that are accessible to any individual wishing to experience the many benefits that participation brings.
Her successful battle with breast cancer throughout 2012 and 2013, with two consecutive mastectomies; has only increased her determination to make a difference in the sport sooner, rather than later by inspiring others to participate in being active regardless of their circumstance. In addition, joining a roller derby league at age 48 and carrying it through to the age of (now) 56 has created a human interest element and fans across the globe following the story. Donna initially skated in her spare time while also raising her special needs son, now 13 years old.
