Structural Solutions

My husband and I contracted with a fence company and we needed some brick columns. We were referred to Structural Solutions. We needed some masonry work done and it came out excellent! We were very happy to have been referred to them and here’s why:
I’m a stay-​at-​home-​mom (SAHM), barely 5 feet tall and have a big baby attached to me. Some contractors come in and try to bully me, talk over me and have actually ignored some of my questions. And this is during the interview! What most contractors don’t know is that I make the decisions on designs for our home regarding hiring and firing of contractors because Guess what? I’m the one they have to work with.
Thankfully, not all contractors are created equal.
The Structural Solutions company had me meet with Peter. The interview went really well. He was very respectful and attentive. They were flexible on work and price. So, they were hired.
Robin came out to work on the job. He set my mind at ease with the rainy weather (oh, Seattle!) and the setting of the mortar. Peter and Robing talked me through information and were patient while I asked and asked again. Additionally, one of the columns was set too far off for my liking. I expressed this and Robin’s response was «No problem. We’ll figure it out and fix it.» No Whining. No Complaining. No BS. Sigh! What a breath of fresh air! So, more than likely due to this and it being a holiday weekend, it took a little longer than expected. But hey, I’d rather have a contractor who doesn’t bitch, does good work and treats me well than one that’s in and out and doesn’t clean up after themselves and treats me like he’s doing me a favor for even showing up. Oh yeah, I speak from experience.
Additionally, the clean-​up deserves and honorable mention. Some contractors don’t clean up after themselves. These do. It was nice to see. They even respected my wild flowers and took care not to trample them while they were here working. It was quite nice to note. I assure you.
While treating your customers like this is common sense, common sense is not so common among contractors. Thankfully Structural Solns has plenty. This is why I have to give Structural Solns. the highest rating, a good reference and any work that my friends or I may need in the future. Thanks for a good job guys. Don’t change.

We are extremely pleased with quality and appearance of the brick walkway ramp and porch at the front entry if our home. Peter and Robin did a great job transforming our concept into a practical and sound structure. Even after finding a problem with the existing structure they resolved it perfectly. I could not be more pleased with the way Peter and Robin listened to me and how the entire crew of craftsmen completed the job in a timely way. When the time is right we may more work for this fine team.

We were looking for a contractor who knew about older homes and clinker brick. We found that person in Peter at Structural Solutions. The estimate was reasonable and included several references so we could see the work they had done. Preparation was done thoroughly and the work progressed well under Armondo’s supervision. Peter checked in regularly. Now that project is complete we are very satisfied with the results and the value it has added to our home. We would recommend Structural Solutions to others.

We contacted several mason repair contractors for our relatively small residential job: modify sill height of one kitchen window and «brick up» one opening at a removed window. Although I am comfortable doing most handyman jobs, I was inexperienced handling exterior brick work — especially getting the moisture barrier membrane right, matching up the mortar, and cutting all the pieces with equipment I would have to rent, etc. Time was also an issue as we juggled our kitchen remodel. I turned to Unilocal to find some experienced help. I found 3 contractors that looked worthwhile to call.
1^st (unnamed) guy: My job must have sounded too small, as he seemed flippant. Came out to estimate, and seemed pretty nice then. Got a sketch by email a day or two later with a few things wrong (me = nervous), and quoted a high number. He also could not start for at least 3 weeks. Emailed back to make the corrections, and did not hear back for 2 weeks.
2^nd (unnamed) guy: Seemed nice enough, but he forgot about our appointment to estimate the job. I hoped it was an honest mistake and gave him another chance. A few days later he emailed some numbers, which also seemed high. I was still not confident there wouldn’t be more issues.
3^rd company was Structural Solutions. Seemed to be a new entry to Unilocal with no reviews, which is why they were 3^rd on the list (other two had mixed reviews, but mostly positive). Spoke with Peter in detail over the phone. He seemed very nice, and came to the house that evening to estimate. I also was concerned our job was too small for them, like with the 1^st guy. Nevertheless, what a pleasant surprise to meet both of them and be treated so professionally. We spent about a half hour thoroughly discussing what will be necessary, easily convincing me they knew their stuff. They even suggested ways to save cost by blending a combination of my own leftover bricks (that match the house) and their own recycled bricks, hand picked to match as closely as possible. I was comfortable demolishing the old windows and framing the interior, and they were prefectly fine to work in tandem with me, also saving substantial cost. While we were there, I also asked about a couple of other small repairs needed on the brick exterior. They didn’t mind taking a few more minutes as we discussed those. As we concluded, they would review some numbers that night and get back shortly with an estimate. Turned out that not only were they priced reasonably, but they also came up with good simple fixes for the additional projects. Total cost including the extra repairs was less than any of the other bids, and they could work with our schedule.
When it was time to do the work, they showed up on time with two experienced masons and one extra helper. We first did a complete walk-​through to make sure everyone understood the objectives, and then they setup all materials and equipment. They worked very quickly and professionally, and I had to work extra fast with the framing and interior work just to keep up! My wife came home later that day and was amazed they completed everything so well in 1 day.
We were very impressed with their work and would definitely use them again.
