Gil Bothwell and the rest of the crew are the best in the business! My family and I have been taking our 5 cars here for years and years, as well as referring them to friends. We used to go to our dealership, but then realized how big a mistake that was because of the dishonest work always being suggested. However at Bothwell, you can 200% guarantee the work is honest, professional, and priced right! It’s family owned by a hardworking and trustworthy family and it shows in the happy customers who are always coming back. I don’t even trust any other car service centers with even a small oil change, Bothwell does it all for us! Who ever wrote that 3 star review must be a competitor because service is definitely straight forward and 5 stars!!!

I just happened to get a referral from a stranger when I needed some work done on my car. This place was great!!! They did honest work and for a decent price! Will definitely be going back when needed!

I love my car! it’s an 06 Mustang GT that I’ve had since new. In fact it’s the third GT I’ve owned. It has run like a top since I drove it home from the dealer. All the basic maintenance (oil change, brakes, etc) have been performed by my husband. A couple of months ago it started running kinda crappy, wouldn’t hold an idle and was just a slug. Then a few weeks ago the feared check engine light came on and it started whining like 3 year old kid. At this point I knew I should probably start looking for a shop to bring it to… boo !!! So I relied on the Unilocalers and found Bothwell who are literally right around the corner from me. Made an appointment and brought her in on a Friday morning. Left it with Gil who checked it out and found that the whining was the alternator. Evidently this bad alternator corrupted a few of the sensors which affected the idle and other stuff. Anyway… Gil installed a new Ford alternator and reset the sensors and computer and it’s back to brand new again! These guys are so polite and professional. Since I’ve never taken the car to a mechanic I really don’t know what stuff costs. But he charged me what seems to be a very reasonable price I thought it would be a lot more !. Highly recommend this shop, One thing that also impressed me was how clean the shop floor and lobby is. If you’re a woman and are a little apprehensive about taking your car in for repair, don’t be, these guys are top notch. Definitely found my shop ! Thank you Gil for getting my car purring again !

I first went to Bothwell about 20 years ago with a differential problem. The Toyota dealer wanted to fix the problem by replacing the entire rear axle assembly for $ 1400. Bothwell’s solution for the problem was to repair the differential, which they did in-​house for $ 700. The Bothwell brothers work on race cars, and I think it’s this passion for cars that makes them a cut above the typical mechanic who’s in the business only for the money. Call ahead for an appointment.

My parents have been coming to this shop for years and years and also has my sister and her boyfriend! I started coming here in 2011 after being fed up with dealership bullshit. I have to say when it comes to customer service and satisfaction I am really picky as seen in my other reviews. I have to say I have never been disappointed with this shop! They always do an excellent job and treat me with kind respect. A lot of places since your a women try to con you that you need stuff you don’t! Not these guys! I had a body shop mechanic tell me that there was something wrong with my engine when he brought up the trouble code. I called and spoke with Todd who told me that they probably needed to re set the idle since they had removed the battery! Just like that he knew over the phone! I brought it in and voila! That was what it was, a simple fix! They also found another trouble code and was was able to fix that also what the body shop didn’t! Thanks to Gil and Todd for always helping me out! I can’t say enough about their top quality service.

Bothwell Automotive is the most professional automotive shop that I have had the honor to be serviced by. I typically prefer to do alot of my own work to my family’s cars due to the fact that I enjoy it and lack of trust due to the nature of most shops that charge high, perform low, and treat their customers like another paycheck.
At Bothwell, this is not the experience. Their staff and management are very knowledgeable, interpersonal, professional, and extremely helpful, who pride themselves on their caliber of work and customer service. Bothwell has earned my business for as long as they will have me due to their exceptional qualities and overall feel.
Their cost are extremely fair and many times lower than all of the competition. I challenge anyone who would contend this statement to gather qoutes from other vendors to compare against Bothwell; utilizing the same quality parts, experienced, certified technicians, and the same guarantee.
I’ve now been coming here for a few years for service for all of our vehicles and the only regret that I have is that I didnt find this talented group of gentlemen sooner.

I was disappointed to see some one star ratings… it has certainly not been my experience! In fact I have been going to Bothwell Automotive for a few years. I have been very please with them, especially because I am a very particular person and I am very selective on who I choose to work on my car.
They also make female customers feel comfortable. When my wife has had a starter or battery failure on her car they took care of her right away, were fair about the price, and they treated her with respect.
We have two high mileage cars (Nissan Maxima and Honda Odyssey) and plan to drive to 200k miles. With mileage comes issues they have been able to diagnose and fix pinging issues, brakes, vibrations, and overall maintain my car in a cost effective way.
For example there was our key ignition system — Dealer quoted us $ 650! Bothwell repaired it including labor for $ 270…Fixed! I also understand that Bothwell doesn’t make the parts… they do their best to install high quality parts on my cars.
If I ever had an question or small issue after a repair… no questions were asked. they said «Bring it in and we will check it out» They really stand behind their work.
If you are looking for a quality, experienced group of technicians that will take the time to diagnose your cars issues, maintain it, charge you a fair price, and it honest. I highly recommend Bothwell. Look no further!

This shop’s quality is getting bad fast, and they are very expensive compared to other mechanic shops in the area. If you leave the car with them for few days your car will be left outside in one of the surrounding streets.
I was very disappointed because last time they took long time to fix my car. They did not completely fix it and damaged the paint on the fender of the car. They completely ignored the damage and tried to hide it. Sad because they were a decent reliable shop although expensive.

I have been going to Bothwell for more than 25 years. I bought a new car and foolishly believed you must do servicing with the dealer to protect the warranty. Two years in, I was told I needed new brakes with all the trimmings (rotors, etc.) for $ 1400. I went back to Gil at Bothwell who explained what was wrong and NOT wrong with the brakes. They did the work for $ 250. The brakes performed for more than two years before needed new pads.
The point of the story is honesty in repairs is hard to find and these guys are very honest and do excellent work. Disregard the one star rating from Feb. 2014. That story
seems far fetched (drop the car and break it ??) and bears NO resemblance to my experiences.
They are professionals in every sense of the word.

I have been with bothwell for a long time started when I needed work on a Gmc Diesel they were the only one in the Southbay to work on diesel back in 1997 that is how long I have been going to them I came to get my oil changed at pep boys witch use to be Discount tire I ask how much to get a CV boot change and they their to sell me a axle to so I call gill to ask if I need both there trying to tell me I need both gill said no you can just replace the Cv boot so see that I why I only trust Bothwell

These guys are top notch.
I took my car in there for a possible electrical repair on my old Bronco. After working on it all day, they told me they thought the car was OK, but to watch it and bring it in at any sign of trouble. For this they charged me $ 0. They were right and the car has run fine ever since.
I then brought the same car in for a major repair to my main seal. They gave me an estimate but told me there may be some additional charges once they opened it up and could do a full diagnostic. There were a few extra issues, but they called me several times over the course of the day to let me know what they were finding and to get my OK on each additional expense that came up. Even with the extras, there price was quite reasonable and less than other auto shops to which I had spoken.

The crew at Bothwell are the best. I have my personal and business vehicles taken care of by them and they always do a great job for me. They explain what the problems are and deliver exactly what they promise.

Gil and Todd were great to deal with. Took my car there for a transmission rebuild after a failure based on a recommendation from coworkers. They were very up front about everything, wanted me to see the damage and called to confirm things every-​time they needed an extra part. Prices were good and the service was great. This is my new goto shop for jobs larger than what I take on myself.

Clear explanatory answers on why my car had issues. Its an 05 mini cooper. Fair price, quick service. Didn’t feel like I was getting unnecessary repairs or service.

My family has been taking our cars here for years, and we always receive exceptional service. Gil and the team know their stuff, and they are the only reason my car has been driving for as many miles as it has. My car just reached her 190k anniversary, and I can’t believe it would have happened without their help.
Now, talking about prices, they do an excellent and fair job of balancing parts and labor, and while they may not be THE cheapest (I haven’t looked) I know that they are NOT expensive in comparison. One company quoted me 3xs what Bothwell’s did for the same parts and service.
Last thing — their timeliness of work is exceptional. I dropped my car off at closing yesterday, and they diagnosed and fixed the issue in 24hs! On previous, more involved jobs, it only took a few days and I was up and rolling again (dare I say purring?)

These guys were sincere, honest, and efficient with their work!
My car overheated on my way down from SF. Luckily we made it all the way down to Manhattan Beach area before steam started coming out of the hood. I got the car towed to my girlfriend’s home and did a Unilocal search and found Bothwell was nearby. I was out of options since I don’t live nearby so I had to give this place a try.
I went in telling them that I thought my radiator might need to be replaced after reading some potential common issues for my car. They could have easily told me yes and charged me for parts and labor for a new radiator which would have cost me hundreds of dollars. Instead, they called me just a few hours later even though they told me they would be quite busy that day and diagnosed the issue as just being a faulty radiator cap causing coolant to leak out and overheat my car. They quickly ordered the part for me and took even more time to run some more tests to make sure that was the actual issue. I’ve driven the car for over a month now with no issues at all.
I would definitely recommend anyone nearby to use this shop! It’s so hard to find autoshops that are honest and that don’t try to make up a bunch of issues in order to make more money. These guys really get how to run a good business. Although they didn’t make much from my fix, they certainly will have gained more business from referrals I’ll send their way! The Bothwell brothers are amazing. Gil has an amazing memory and treats everyone like a loyal customer even when they take their car to a backyard mechanic or the Dealer to have work down and then bring it to Bothwells to get it «fixed». Steve leads a team of amazing mechanics!
