Spikes Deluxe Dog Wash

I’ve been taking my dogs here for a couple of years now and have never thought for once to look somewhere else. Alex is a true master at his craft. Patience for days and puts love a ton of love into his craft. He always takes great care of my little Multi-​Poo Lo-​Lo, and does a bang up job every time. I couldn’t recommend Alex and his services enough. He is surly one of the best in town. Thanks Alex!

Took my mini poodle mix here twice. The first time the guy was patient and cut my dogs hair to par. Second time I took her just to get her nails clipped and the guy took the extra time to fix up the bad haircut I gave our dog for free! I’ve been going ever since! Great service.

I have three dogs and continue to bring them to Spike’s because of the great care and service we receive from the owner and primary groomer who is a young, hardworking local guy who bought the business a few years ago. Support your local business knowing that your dogs are being loved while at the beauty parlor!

We bring our Scottish Terrier in for the self wash on a regular basis. When we were struggling with cutting his nails, the groomer who was there not only came and helped us, he used a rotary tool and did our dog’s nails with no problems at all! He showed us how to do it and told us what tool to buy. He has always been helpful and pleasant. We LOVE this place!

My buddie has been going to them for 4 years and they are always friendly and sweet with my boy and he always comes home shining from ear to tail. :)

I’ve visited this store several times and found the young man working there to be very helpful. I purchased a concentrated dog shampoo from them that has all natural ingredients and no lathering agents — it rinses much more easily than the typical dog shampoo.
I’ve also taken my elderly chow and neurotic terrier there to have their nails trimmed. He showed me a safer way to trim their nails and was very patient with my dogs. He even trimmed my chow’s hairy booty after the nail trim, which I appreciated greatly!
I haven’t groomed my dogs there yet, but will update my review if and when I do.

Excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff. They got everything prepared for us and helped walk us through each step, from shampoo to ears to blow dry! We even got a free first bath for our recently adopted pet with paperwork proof! Very satisfied. Will definitely visit again in the future.

Alex grooms my 2 huskies on a regular basis, and now, we have adopted a 14 year old shih tzu. We’ve never had little dogs, and I have no idea how to go about grooming them. So, I made an appointment with alex. I showed up this morning baffled, and concerned. Before we adopted her, Sally had been stuck in a boarding facility for 6 weeks. I picked her up, she was matted, her nails very long, and she had feces stuck in her paws and fur. So, I dumped her on Alex, and begged for mercy. He was very, very nice, asked me what I wanted, when I said I had no idea, he was even nicer. He took pity, and told me he’d take awesome care of her, and call me when she was done.
2 hours later, she was good to go. When I came to pick her up, I didn’t even recognize her! She’d been cleaned up, shaved down, bathed, and brushed. She looks wonderful! And I know she feels better, she had the zoomies for half an hour after we got home!
Oh, and did I mention the price? $ 60 to fully groom my huskies, and $ 45 for Sally. That’s just a steal, especially considering all they do! (Sally’s grooming included a complete shave down, trimming of the hair around her eyes, and nose, ear plucking, nail trim, anal gland expression, bath, and lots of snuggles.)

We have taken our dog, Max, here 3 times, and just recently visited with a foster puppy who had been abandoned at a dog park. Spike’s staff is always super friendly and helpful, checking in multiple times to see if we need more soap, conditioner, etc. They give us complimentary nail clips with our self-​wash, and advise us on how to make our dog’s bath experience better. When we came with the foster puppy, they gave us a «good samaritan» wash for him, on the house, which was so generous and appreciated! It is so nice to leave the mess at Spike’s instead of our bathroom, and the cost is very reasonable. I highly recommend them!

I will only take my dog, Chow Mein, to Spike’s. Alan is a retired Air Force guy, so he is a perfectionist. He’s been in dog grooming for many years and has a a lot of experience and patience with animals. Even though it is a do-​it– yourself place, you can pay more and they will do it for you. Chow gets happy to return there, wagging his tail. Alan recommended a product for his itchiness and it went away, showed me the best comb to use for Chow’s fur, and Spikes sells the BEST dog food. Alan even showed me how to brush Chow’s teeth. I love Spikes, and so does Chow.

After bringing in my first dog, I knew it was just a matter if time before bringing in the second one. Not only did I get to try my hand at grooming with lots of appreciated help, the owner donated a basic grooming package for a silent auction at my son’s school! The price is great and I will surely go back again and again!:) my dogs and I are very happy! Thanks!

Here’s a follow-​up to our last review and Alan the owner’s response:
Per Alan’s not-​so-​friendly recommendation, we went to Dirty Dawgs on Campbell and couldn’t be happier! The owner, Rebecca, took the time to get to know our dog and made us feel welcome from the start. Moreover, the facility felt like a salon with pleasant décor, high end products (with the ingredients clearly displayed on the bottle), and even some good tunes on the radio. Yay Dirty Dawgs! Oh, and it was $ 16 for everything, which felt like a steal!
We will never be back to Spike’s. Ever. We were loyal customers for over a year, and no contrived, saccharine response by Alan the owner is going to make amends for his horrible service and questionable business practices.

I really like them. They know their stuff! I always go back even though is way way out of my way.

The first time I went to Spike’s was wonderful. A young man who worked there (I think it’s the owner’s son) was an amazing help. He showed me everything, answered questions, and made sure that by the time my dog left, she looked like a million bucks. My dog liked him and he made me feel welcome.
I was so impressed that I went back today and instead of the cheapest service (which is what I had the first time), I went with the Deluxe package which was supposed to include everything.
This time, though, the nice young man was busy with a cat & I was left with the owner, Alan. Alan, unlike his son, was an unfriendly, unhelpful, and even belligerent jerk. Not only would he not voluntarily help with anything, he acted totally put-​out even showing me how his shop’s clippers worked. His attitude seemed to be somewhere between F-​U and tough luck.
After about 10 minutes of trying to clip my dog with a blade that wasn’t up to snuff, and getting no help from Alan, I told him that this wasn’t going to work for me and it looked like I’d have to go to Petco. He took my debit card and said he was going to charge me the full fee, even though I hadn’t yet bathed, brushed, cut, or done anything else to my dog.
At that point, I decided if I was going to have to pay for it, I might as well try to muddle through. Alan spent all of about two minutes trying to help, which he did silently and with a hostile attitude. Long story short — my dog left the place looking terrible. She was unhappy to be there and I have never felt as unwelcome or uncomfortable at a business — ever.
I would suggest that before anyone else go there, they check to see who’s working and if it’s Alan, don’t go. He’s a man who either hates his job or just hates people. Luckily, his son doesn’t take after him, which is the best thing I can say about Spike’s.

I brought my Pomeranian here for a bath and thorough brush-​out, and the facilities were great. They have sturdy tubs and provide diluted shampoo that smelled very nice and got all the grime out of my dog’s fur. Then, we moved to the grooming table for a blowdry (high power!) and spent a good long time brushing out those fluffles. The staff was super helpful, showing me which brushes were best to use to rake out the extra poofles, and by the end of the afternoon, the pile of excess fur was bigger than the dog!
Overall, the facilities were nice, the staff was extremely helpful, and the price can’t be beat. A great place to take your dog if they don’t like being sprayed with a hose in the backyard!
