Guedes Construction has done a major remodel on our master bath, a major gut and remodel of our kitchen, and just finished a «man cave» remodel for my husband. I wish that I had more funds to continue throughout my home because it truly is becoming «my home» now.
Prior to Guedes Construction, it was always a major ordeal dealing with home improvement or contractors. The other contracting experiences I had were late or «no show», limited skills requiring monitoring to make sure jobs were done right, invasive feeling having them in the home, bids not solid, anxiety watching them work or the subcontractors they would hire.
With Guedes, that is just the opposite. Rick bids a job with real knowledge and skill. He knows what you need just a few minutes into the conversation. He is real about his estimates. I have learned when you are trying to do a job cheaply, you will get a cheap job but not one you are always happy with. I tried having a «handyman» do my guest bathroom. I got a «handyman» cheap job of which I hope in the future I can have Rick re-​do. After I saw how transforming Rick’s remodels are, it made me not satisfied with anything less. I am not an agent or compensated for my opinions, it is just that after having many experiences in the past on other homes, Rick was like a God send to me, finding restful assurance he knew what he was talking about and would provide everything he contracts for. His estimates are concise, itemized line per line. I read where one reviewer didn’t like that he asked what her budget was and she wrote a poor review for him. Honestly, if you don’t know «ball park» what you are willing to spend, how can he project costs. Most jobs can go from cheap to really expensive depending on what choices of fixtures, flooring, etc, you make. He has to have your budget to know what will fit into that job. I found Rick on Unilocal and my desire is to help others from my experience make the difficult decision of finding the right contractor for the job.
The first part of my review was about Rick because he was the initial contact I had and I was impressed. I continued to be impressed with the other part of the crew which is Carlos who is part of the Guedes family. Carlos is talented and able to do any part of a job which eliminates the need for subcontracting in many areas which avoids slow downs waiting on others on a job. Also if avoids a lot of other issues i.e. sub contract liens and etc. Carlos is part of the family which means his name goes on any job he does. He has an employee named Jose who is awesome too. They work side by side like a smooth team and are remarkably competent and steady and fast in anything they do. I love watching them work. I don’t cringe like the past contractors. Past contractors made me worry when I watched them work, As you can see, I learned that you can’t just hire anyone or pick someone out of the phone book or yellow pages. Beware of talk or promises, get references and know your contractor before you hire.
I will miss Rick, Carlos, and Jose as they have been so awesome working with.

Unfortunately I have to write a poor review. I called Guedes Construction based on reviews here so I only feel it fair to write a review as to this company.
Without going into all the detail, I was looking for a labor only bid as I am in design and can source materials at cost. I was very clear when I made the appointment and the owner came to my house to do the estimate. I was told by him I would receive a labor line item only estimate broken down by each room — project, so I could determine per room cost and a list of what was included so I could priorize what to be done in each room –based on costs. He kept asking me what my budget was and I wouldn’t give him an answer. My budget is my budget and irrelevant as to an estimate. If they are a reputable company the cost should be consistent and shouldn’t matter as to my budget or status. We have a large project — kitchen and baths and I need decide what I will do when –all or some. I understand that if I do more it will effect the price which should result in a deduction of price, I wanted to see what full price it was per project.
It took almost 2 weeks to receive the estimate, after I had followed up twice as to where it was. When I received it, was not broken down by project and it didn’t have a line item price. It was a total price for every project. When I called and asked for this detail we discussed, they refused to give this to me (they were nice about it) but refused and said they only offer a project total. What a waste of time on both of our parts and a Concerning sign as to pricing costs from this company and lack of follow up. This forces me to believe there are obviously a lot of hidden costs they don’t want to reveal.
If I buy — contract something, I have a right to know how much I am being charged for each item not just the total sale.
I can’t review their work and I would assume they are top notch, but I will never know as they would give me a true estimate.
It’s Amazing to me anyone would accept this form of pricing.
By the way the estimate was over 70,000 without materials. So, seems to me they wouldn’t want to lose a job like this

After meeting with several contractors, I selected Rick to update/​remodel my two bathrooms. His work proposal clearly represented what I wanted and was within my budget. Rick and his crews were very professional, friendly, and had great communication with me. They were always on time and got the job done within our project timelines. The entire project went very smoothly and exceeded my expectations.
I am very satisfied with Rick and his attention and cooperation from the very start. Working with Rick has been a very positive experience. I have other remodeling work that needs to be done and I will surely use Rick again!

We recently needed to have a shower replaced as well as a few other items in our master bath. We were referred to Guedes Construction by Pacific Sales in Escondido. Rick and his team did an excellent job and we are very happy with the results. Quality work at a fair price and we will definitely be calling them again when we have more improvements to be done around the house. Rick was very flexible with what we wanted to do and provided great ideas to help us decide on the final product.

This is a top notch family owned business that takes pride in their work and are caring and professional. You will be in good hands with your next home improvement/​remodeling project with them and won’t be disappointed. We couldn’t be happier with our two bathroom remodels that they completed in a timely fashion, which is difficult to find in today’s market. Rick always kept us informed each step of the way and followed through with the whole process. His suggestions and Ideas were quite helpful and appreciated. They certainly deserve the BBB A+ rating.

They can do anything – definitely go «above and beyond» what is required-​like having your family do the work for you. They remodeled a whole house for us before we moved in and I have had nothing but compliments on the cabinets, wood floors, Travertine file, and everything else. Excellent work ethic and follow through – always available to help out.

They remodeled my guest bathroom and did a great job! I would recommend these guys. They were helpful making suggestions when I asked, completed the job on-​time and very courteous. I plan to have them redo my master bath soon.

I just wanted to update my review based on f the negative reviews that was posted. Guedes does great work and stands behind their finished product 100%. I had an issue last year where my boys had destroyed our screen door. Rick came over shortly after and repaired it. No questions asked. How’s that for service? And for the review that accused them of theft. I have left more than a few valuables out in plain site & never have had any issues. I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone at Guedes would do any of the things that they mentioned.

What a moron. Owner Rick Guerdes came out, stunk of cigarettes, then copped an attitude and started yelling at me because I wouldn’t give him copy of my prints (only one I had and just got from architect). I couldn’t believe it. It all started less than 5 minutes of him being here. I suggested others came by giving quotes without drawings, and he said well than go with them, but I needed to pay him to make prints, or provide him prints to give me a quote. Never heard of such a thing. Then… when he went to look at my electrical panel, he was trying to suggest he needed to re-​work my panel. I was trying to explain I thought there was enough open circuits, and then he went ballistic. Stormed out gate to his truck, stood and yelled at me for several minutes! This is a guy who is trying to get business. Stay away from him. Far far away. this guy has a short fuse, and is very arrogant. There are much better people in industry than to deal with morons like this. Can’t imagine what he would be like if you had an issue with work he did… oh wait, others did comment on that as well. Case in point.

We have used Guedes Construction to remodel a bath, and now a few years later to repaint the entire inside of our house and replace some doors. They are up front about the price and the duration fo the project, and they stick to both. Everyone we dealt with during all this work was just great. On time, on budget, and high quality work. They are our go-​to guys.

Guedes Construction remodeled our master bathroom and bedroom and were great to work with. They do high quality work at a fair and reasonable price. As important, they are a highly ethical family run operation and a pleasure to work with. After having gotten estimates from several other large contractors, we were turned off by their hard sells, hidden costs and generally unethical business practices. Guedes was a breath of fresh air. They do the work they say they’ll do and do it on a timely basis. Rick Guedes has an excellent eye for creativity and design along with strong attention to detail. Rick was outstanding at helping to guide us through all phases of the construction process. His design ideas were not only good but many were cost savers!
