Spice Bush is a small park with a pond that has a surprising amount of wildlife– a blue heron, snapping turtles, foxes, deer, muskrats and so on. Good place to take the dog as there is lots to sniff. note: The pond is stocked with trout and from about 4⁄15 to 5⁄15 the place has lots of folks fishing and hence not so good of a place for a fun outing with the pooch until evening. Also, there are at least two very large and most likely very old snapping turtles in the pond. Took pictures once when they were sunning and showed them to someone who knows about such things and they said: «those are very old snappers». update April 2012: The tree debris has been cleared during the past week and the path around the pond is now clear. The pond has not been stocked with trout(yet?) and so there hasn’t been a crowd. Do not know if the pond will be stocked now that the cleanup has been done. The snapping turtles may be getting hungry. update 8⁄2012: There was a major cleanup of the fallen trees and the path around the pond is now wider and more open than it used to be. Also, the parking lot was filled with machinery and material for the Mountain Rd repair but all of that has been removed and the parking lot resurfaced.
