A very cool park! It has a playscape, sand box and swings for the kids. There’s also a water pad that opens up in the summer. There’s also a basketball and a small nature trail with a pond. Something to do for everyone and not far from 84 on/off ramp.

I think this place is cool during the summer time. You bring your little one here and they would find this place to be super fun. You have a nice sprinkler system that is pretty artistic, coming from the ground or overhead. Then you have a playscape with swings, slides, see-saws, sandbox, etc. Also there is a soccer field and a pond. It’s definitely good for kids up to ages 6. I also find this place nice for taking a walk with a special someone. ;)

This little park is located right in the heart of my old ‘hood. I used to walk here several times a week but luckily I am only a five minute drive from where I am currently living. Located off of New Britain Ave. and super close to Corbins Corner, WestFarms and the rest of the shopping along the street, it’s in a convenient spot for those who want an easy outdoor stroll or a more intense sweat session. What I love about this place is the openness of the whole park. You can pretty much see all areas of the park from any location. The walking/running paved path kind of goes around in a square-ish shape with green manicured fields for various sporting activities in spring, summer, and fall, and sledding in the winter off the large rolling hills. If you’re a runner, the best times to come are probably early in the morning or later in the evening as it can get a little busy during the warmer months. Some mornings I am the only one there. Today I went for a walk just before dinnertime and between the spectators for the West Hartford Youth Baseball League and the youth soccer game, the path was a bit congested in some spots. In addition to an area for youth baseball and a huge field for soccer, there’s also a basketball court off past the baseball area and near the second parking lot that I’ve seen people use a lot. Also, there’s a playground that many families bring their kids to. Other things you’ll find here: bathrooms + picnic tables + benches. Two parking lots to park in with plenty of spaces, one on Chatfield Dr. and the other on Wolcott Rd. The one I always use, Wolcott, has developed a few potholes over the years so beware if you visit. If you’re looking to be outside, this is a good place to go.

From a farm to a park Wolcott Park has been around for a long time and was named in honor of a family that once had a farm in this area. This part of town is so developed now that it’s difficult to imagine that this once was farm land but before the huge malls were built it was mostly woods and water. Wolcott Park has changed and grown throughout the years and now offers 6 tennis courts, 2 very fine basketballs courts, a baseball field, a soccer field, splash park, a very cool playground and even a small pond for fishing and some short trails through the woods. In the winter it has some nice hills for sledding and even some easy cross country skiing. The hiking trails are short and very buggy but offers a nice little diversion from the more crowded parts and we saw a huge blue heron while we were there. Also well used by the high school kids as a place for less wholesome but equally fun activities. Wolcott Park is a very useful and well designed park that offers a lot in a relatively small space. I remember playing thousands of hours of basketball and even some tennis here centuries ago when I was young. The courts are lighted and use to bring some very competitive, aggressive and fierce players from all the surrounding towns and the courts were always crowded and often had long waits. I was quite surprised to see both the hoops courts and tennis courts completely empty when I went through the other day. The weather was fine and both the courts seemed in excellent condition but nobody was using them. Quite a contrast from when I lived in the area. Perhaps I just came at the wrong time and the courts are still heavily used or perhaps times have changed and more indoor pursuits like video games and stuff like Unilocal take up kids times now. I hope people still take advantage of these facilities because parks like Wolcott are a great place to work up a sweat and enjoy being outside.
