I’m glad the hipsters keep this place alive. One of the last remaining record stores that still bring in new vinyl. Located in uptown Whittier this spot has a nice supporting cast. Cool vintage toy shops and hipster bars surround it. The guys up front are friendly and knowledgeable. One of the guys is a Dj so you can ask him pretty much anything. The shop is kept really clean and organized. They carry posters, new and use cd’s and even old schools cassettes. There bread and butter is the New and used vinyl, three rows of digging fun. Last thing, they also sell turntables and buy and trade vinyl and cd’s.And if you didn’t know, now you know.

This place is the real deal. There are very few good indy record stores in this world left but Lovells is no question one of them. There are very few places where you can walk into and walk out with the new Adele, something rare from Neil Young and an original pressing of Pet Sounds. That’s Lovells. The staff is friendly and knowledgable which usually leads to more suggestions and items on the wish list. They are a little pricer and Amazon but hey, you pay it to support small businesses. Gladly.

I stop here at least once a week, and check out what they’ve got. They keep a constant flow of new stuff coming in, and it’s great to find the hidden gems. The staff is super friendly and quite helpful. They’ve got quite a good variety and I always find a couple things to take home and put under the needle. If you haven’t had the chance to check them out do it, there’s a reason they’ve been in Whittier for so long.

This seemed like a great place to buy CDs, but was disappointed when I actually went inside. The CDs were a bit overpriced in my opinion for what they were offering. I checked their discounted section and they actually had some great times there. Problem was when I checked the CDs, almost all of them were scratched up. Most of the time when I went there the employees would just talk among themselves and not really acknowledge the customers.

Love this place. When i enter i am always greeted at the door. They always have great music playing. The dvd and record bargain areas always have me in there going through them for a long time finding little $ 1 gems for my collection. Even the new records selection is awesome. The posters are awesome. My boyfriend got me one of the super huge ones for my bday for only $ 15. Its just a great fun place to stop into for music lovers.

Been purchasing vinyl here since around 83′ I probably go here maybe three times a week and usually leave with some used vinyl. Super friendly very helpful. Love this place

Too much rock and roll, definitely needs to be more variety! Idc if the store owner is stuck on one genre, Boring ass fool, there’s people out there who actually know good music and want to see it! Bring some light to this dump! P. s there needs to be more POWER VIOLENCE \m/

Love finding old vinyl here. I’ve been a fan of Lowell’s for years. Just saw one of my HS students from my days at Cal High here. Miss u Steven. Still have my mushroom drawing.:)

once some guy working there was on his lunch break or something, and i dont know WHAT he was eating but it smelled horrible!!! like what was that nasty food smell??? anyways. sometimes they dont have what im looking for, but i plan to build up my collection of my favorite band CDs by buying from this place :)

I’ve been going to Lovell’s since 1990.
Tom is the best and their selection is great for a small indie record store. Their used music and movies section never disappoints.
Fair prices, close proximity to home and friendly staff makes this my go-​to place for media hunting.
I hope it’s around forever.

Shopping at Lovell’s is like shopping for underwear at the Salvation Army. But my friend likes cheap music so I humor him whenever we’re in Uptown Whittier. Tonight may have been the last straw. We’d just had a really nice dinner at The Rusty Monk and my friend had leftovers in a styrofoam container. As we entered Lovell’s, the one female employee practically assaulted him saying he had to leave it at the secondary counter. He was understanding so he left it. I saw where she placed it and thought it would be okay there.
A little while later I glanced over and saw that the container had been moved. Okay… that’s fine, maybe the employee wanted it somewhere else.
When the 5 minute closing warning was given we went to the counter so my friend could make his purchase. He asked for his container and the female employee who had taken it said «It should be over there.» I said «It’s not.» So she asked the other female employee who replied «I threw it away. I had been sitting there a while.» Both employees said «Sorry» like it was no big deal. My friend pushed back and asked if that’s all they could do. And the first female employee got snippy with a «You can’t bring food into the store» comment, loaded with attitude.
So here’s MY take on it… you don’t allow food in the store. Fine. But don’t just go throw it away because *your* perception is that it had been sitting there «a while.» Excuse us for shopping in your store for more than 5 minutes. If you didn’t know who it belonged to would it kill you to ASK the other employee?
My friend is welcome to continue patronizing this establishment but I won’t step foot into it again. It’s dirty, you never see the same employee twice, and evidently they don’t give a f**k about their customers. And for crying out loud change the f**king posters on the wall!

PROS: great selection of vinyl, movies, posters, and few other cool stuff. I always walk out with some cool new vinyl. I also like that it’s by a lot of great shops. The staff is also very friendly, and they also have a rewards card If you go often.
CONS: not really any, do wish they had more vinyl.

This is a really cool place! My son, who is an old soul, loves vinyl so naturally he wanted to go here for his birthday. It’s really unique with a nice selection of pre-​owned music, movies, etc., so just about everyone can find something they like.
The selection of vinyl is pretty expansive and everything is organized and labeled clearly. I appreciated the fact that records were put back where they belonged and that the staff was really nice, knowledgeable, and professional. My boys were in heaven, which made me happy so we’ll be back.

Had the most terrible experience here at this store. First of all the workers were way to busy socializing with each other to pay any attention to the customers. I had to ask three times for help and finally one of the guys reluctantly pulled away from his conversation on how cool and hipster his beard was. Then after I was done looking around, I asked what I would get back for some DVDs I wanted to sell. The same guy rudely told me to take the Dvds out of the bag and leave them there. I waited another 30 minutes and had to go back up there. They weren’t even busy. He hadnt looked at any of them yet. Finally without lifting a finger, he says to me…“well all this stuff is gonna go the budget section anyway… I can gve you 10 bucks for everything.”…I told him, «No thanks, I’ll take my business elsewhere». So I went to Book Off in Lakewood… the same DVDs… I got 45 bucks for everything and the workers there were so attentive and professional. I will never go to Lovell’s ever again… DONT GO TO LOVELLS… GO TO BOOK OFF AT THE LAKEWOOD MALL… you will have a much much better experience!

A nice place to stop by and check out some vinyl on a stroll in Uptown Whittier. I’m a record collector and always drop in to check out the records. Selection always changes, never know what gem you will find. That’s the excitement and fun part.

I LOVE this place! They have great collections of LP vinyl records. It’s like going to a toy store and finding treasure trove of goodies. Make sure to ask to ask for frequent buyer card to get discounts. I WILL KEEP COMING BACK HERE!

Giving it 5 stars cause of their CD selection, they also have vinyls which is a plus. They also have posters for sale if you like that kinda stuff. Another plus which is kinda awesome is that they are located in uptown Whittier, bars and restaurants everywhere. Only minus which I’m big on is that they have a small selection on vinyls.

I’ve been here three times and all three times I was dissatisfied. They don’t have much of a variety of LPs. One of the employees, the one behind the counter, doesnt seem like he enjoys working there. Only positive is I’ve sold twice and I’ve gotten pretty good money for both. But overall, I do not recommend this store. But that is only my opinion!

One of my favorite. It’s near me and I love that it’s in uptown Whittier :) I really recommend this place. I’ve found treasures there.

Since music stores are going the way of the dodo bird, I had to give this place some love. Reminds me of the music stores I always loved.
Con: The cd selection is ehhhhh, the vinyl selection is terrible, and there wasn’t much else. The guy working there wasn’t very ‘cool’ either. Maybe I’m bias b/​c I use to work at Virgin Megastore and we had EVERYTHING and were all about having fun at work. However, even as far as independent music stores go-​this one is not anything to be impressed by.
Pro: It’s a music store and it’s open.
