Are here once. Ordered the Eel after being recommended. Worst thing I’ve ever eaten. Ruined my date. Never gone back.

Fresh Japanese the way it should be. If they don’t have fresh tuna to purchase that day its not on the menu and in our case it was swapped with Kingfish. Was a shame but if its not fresh my sashimi wouldn’t be as good as it should be. The soft shelled crap, tempura mixed seafood, lotus root chips were ordered as starters by my partner and I and seeing as it was a birthday dinner we didn’t hold back. Spider roll was lovely and fresh and fell apart in the mouth. BUT by far my favourite dish would have to be the Salmon Katsu — melt in your mouth med rare salmon triangles. They look a bit like a fancy fish finger you had as a child HOWEVER they are definitely adult food and so delicious I nearly dream about them. The waiter GARY(surely not his real name) was polite and very helpful, the boss also visited the table for a chat and once it was known it was a birthday dinner a little gift appeared. Which was a lovely touch. The restaurant was not too busy for a Tuesday night, but it was quiet enough that you could have a romantic dinner if you wanted. Great experience and will be returning, for my fancy fish fingers. You can bring BYO here which also helps keep the final bill in check.

My experience on Hayashi has focused on Friday lunchtimes, which is actually the only weekday that they open their doors between 12 and 2.30pm. Their focus is on dinner. But I can tell you that folks that work in the vicinity descend on this place in droves on Fridays! My favourite is their Teriyaki Chicken Don — beautiful bits of chicken on rice with salad. I’ve also had their sushi before and really enjoyed that. Huge, fresh pieces — really lovely. Probably a good thing they are only open one week day because I’m sure I would be visiting a lot more often!
