Oh Log Barn, what happened to you? I stopped in today for some treats and now I’m regretting it a little. I had a few questions about some candy I hadn’t seen before and the woman I was dealing with was very short with me. I thought she was rather rude. After this exchange I asked for a cinnamon bun and she misunderstood me, going to the back for a box of them. I corrected her and she didn’t seem happy about it. When I got home to eat the cinnamon bun I was so excited about, it turned out to be totally dry and crumbly. What the heck?! Did I seriously pay $ 4 for old, dried up baking? Yes I did. It’s likely going to be pie purchases only from now on, if I even bother. The service put a worse taste in my mouth than the baking. I checked out the website and their mission to make any unsatisfactory customer service experience right if it’s not second to none. I sent them an email and we’ll see what happens.

Log Barn… go for the pies, stay for the cinnamon buns! I needed a yummy dessert to bring to a potluck and didn’t have time to make one. And grocery store desserts just don’t cut it anymore. Log Barn is like gift shop meets pie shop. You’ll find all kinds of little knick knacks to peruse, some jams to pick up, and then you’ll smell the heavenly aromas wafting out of the back and not be able to help but follow your nose to see what goodies will call out to you to bring them home… like those cinnamon buns. Oh, and the drive thru portion is no longer open. Unilocal’s 30 Day Challenge: 17⁄30

Log Barn 1912 is exactly what you’d expect to find on the road side in the Okanogan. Except that it’s on 16th Ave/Trans Canada right by SAIT/ACAD and across from North Hill mall. The décor is eclectic with children’s toys, weird animal statues and giant pencils just kinda piled here and there. If you’re into campy stuff, you’ll have a field day. I’m not into camp but I am into food, and this is where the Log Barn 1912 shines. Award winning mennonite sausages, garlic coils, cheeses and huge variety of pickled goods, jams, jellies, sauces and even wine sauces and vinegars(made from Okanogan wines!) pack the shelves. There’s also cookies, beef jerky, pepperoni, sausage on a bun(with or without saurkraut and hot mustard) and the pies. Oh my the pies. There’s at least 10 different kinds on any day either whole or by the slice. I can’t say I’ve had one I didn’t like. There’s also a drive through. Yes, a drive through PIESHACK. So, if you’re into a little road trip in town or a place with«character» Log Barn 1912 is it. Make sure to take a little something home with you.

Let’s put it this way. If I could live here, I most definitely would. THAT, my friends, is exactly how much I LOOOOOVE the Log Barn. Having been in existence in Canada since 1912, Log Barn finally graced us Calgarians with its presence about a year ago. Picture walking into a BEAUUUTIFUL cabin, filled with the most beautiful décor, unique water fountains everywhere, and the freshest, most delicious food at every corner you look. Picture walking in and smelling the sweet smells of freshly baked fruit pie. Picture a more homey, more unique and more awe-inspiring version of Sunterra Market. You’re now picturing the Log Barn. Whether you’re looking for milkshakes, slurpies, french toast, homemade almond roca, the most beautiful ginger snaps I’ve ever seen, or WORLDFAMOUS homemade fruit pies; The Log Barn is where you need to go. The ambiance is indescribable and the freshness of their produce, meats, cheeses and baked goods is undeniable. Plus interspersed in between all their jaw-dropping groceries are unique and extraordinary gifts. Puppets, figurines and fountains have been expertly placed throughout the barn. My words cannot do this place justice. What my words can tell you however is that the strawberry-rhubarb pie I bought from here was so fresh that it was still hot when I brought it home. Oh, and my words should also probably tell you that it was THE best pie I have EVER had in my entire life. I am BY far one of the biggest Log Barn fans around. if you’ve never been, do yourself a favour and experience all that is The Log Barn. See you there.
