Cold Craft is a full service residential and commercial heating, air conditioning and refrigeration firm. We work on equipment from standard to specialties such as geothermal, grocery store efficiency, wine cellars, wineries and parking garage sensor calibration.

History

Established in 1991.

Founder Kent Penning, as a local HVAC Instructor has access to top talent that he recruits for the best quality. The CCI philosophy is to utilize a select group of journeymen installers and service techs to control the quality and consistently build the business.



The real test of a company is not how they act when everything went well, but how do they react when it did not go as planned. CCI stands behind their work.

In addition to the residential work a good part of the business is commercial HVACR equipment too. Our customers include local colleges, restaurants, apartment complexes (for HVAC maintenance and installation), office buildings, telecommunications companies (call centers, data centers), wineries, mushroom farm refrigeration, etc. This commercial work shows that CCI can handle a larger breadth of work than your typical HVACR company.

Business Owner

Susan N is the CEO and Kent P. is the Founder and President of Cold Craft, Inc. We are experts in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration installation and service. We are the go to choice for standard, high efficiency and any level of difficulty or one off jobs.

Susan and Kent make a great team.

Susan has run large teams of individuals with a focus on quality, safety and the customer experience for a Fortune 50 company. Her training, marketing, management and customer experience skills help Cold Craft to provide the best in HVAC services.

Kent has been in this industry since 1979 and he used his expertise to start Cold Craft in 1991. He is an instructor in the HVAC program at San Jose City College. Mr. Penning is recognized as being an expert in the field and is sought out to help with many challenging applications. Teaching also allows him to recruit some of the best and upcoming talent.

Robert came on-​time and was professional. He diagnosed the problem with our A/​C condensation pump and pointed out it had been plumbed incorrectly when installed. He replumbed the pipes from the pan to the condensation pump and fixed our A/​C. The charge was very fair .

Several months ago my HVAC was not cooling. The technician spent 10 minutes to diagnose the problem, and said he couldn’t find a leak. He said he would use a dye pack, but he didn’t have it with him; so he had to drive a couple cities away to buy one. Then he recharged the unit with a lot of freon. The total bill came to almost $ 800, including 2 hours (almost $ 300) of «service», which consisted of him driving to buy a dye pack. This is so unprofessional, that I had to pay for him to go get a part that a repairman should come with. It’s not even a custom part; it’s a dye pack!
If he had actually solved the problem, I wouldn’t be writing this review. But the HVAC was broken again after a month or so, in fact worse than before I called them.
The people answering the phone were nice, but the repair service was very disappointing.

Kent at Cold Craft is very knowledgeable! Not only does he bring his expertise to the company and their clients he is also a teacher at San Jose Community College. Thank God because we need more professionals like Kent in the HVAC community. Cold Craft offers a huge list of services they offer from keeping your wine cellar cool to keeping your pool warm!

Excellent Service! Our air conditioner stopped working over the weekend. Robert from Cold Craft came out, quickly diagnosed the problem and within a short time had the system working again. I have used their services at both my office and home and I highly recommend them. Always very professional, friendly, and competiively priced.

I hired this company to change our heater. By just talking to the owner I didn’t even bothered calling anyone else. They maybe more or they maybe less than other companies but what was important for me was to get the job done right. Our heater was an older model and they had to do some special modification which the owner did not up charged us for it at all. I might of found a cheaper company out there but I’m glad we went with these guys. We were so happy with the quality of the heater and workmanship that we even hired them to do our companies warehouse heater as well. Perfect work done again. They angled it so that it would heat the specific area that we wanted to heat up. For the third time we hired them to fix our broken heater and thermostat in our showroom. Again another perfect job done. We actually got price from another person for this repair and cold crafts was cheaper. I can’t say nothing but the best about these guys. I have and will recommend them to everyone.

Coldcraft said will be my house at 2pm. They were at the door at 2pm, even with short notice. Plus 1 star. They came and diagnose the issue and gave the reasons why it broke in simple terms. Plus 2 stars. They fixed it with pointers on ways to prevent the problem and gave me 90day warranty. Plus 2 stars. Good service, good people, good company.

Cold Craft was the most experienced professional contractor I have ever worked with. From start to finish, they excelled in every aspect. When Robert intially came out to discuss the project, he spent an hour and a half explaining things to me and answering every possible question I could possibly come up with. Another plus was that they are Diamond Certified — a rating they highly deserve. They finished the job on time and when they cleaned up I couldn’t tell they had been there because they cleaned up so well. When I had to reroute one pvc pipe, they came out quickly and made the adjustment. With their 18 month buy back program, how can you go wrong? After they installed my high energy efficient furnace, the therms on my utility bill dropped from 137 to 84 a month.

Cold Craft is a heating/​cooling company that either installs new equipment or fixes your old equipment. They are very professional and I’ve had no trouble in the summer since they installed a new air conditioner. They are the only vendor my HOA recommends and I can see why.
