I am new to LA and decided to try Vertigo Salon and I am so happy I did! I didn’t have an appointment but they were glad to fit me in, I waited maybe only 5 minutes before I was in a chair. My stylist, Katy Love, was great! She helped me figure out what style I wanted and ultimately I got the cut I wanted, even though I didn’t know it yet. The whole staff was extremely friendly and the salon itself is beautiful and clean. I would definitely recommend this salon!

Ugh, worst experience ever… I really wish I would have read some of the reviews on here before trying this place out. I went for a mani/​pedi and thought 2 hours would be plenty of time… boy was I wrong. After an hour and a half all that had been accomplished was removal of my gel polish and my feet being soaked, massaged, and filed. Never have I had a pedicure where the massage comes before the polish. Doesn’t the polish stick better if the surface is free of oils? After the hour and a half, I mentioned that I needed to be on my way by 1pm. This created a rush. My toes were painted, but the color wasn’t going on evenly and I could tell she was just trying to get it done. She tried to do my fingernails while my feet were drying, but the polish looked even worse on my nails. She took it off, kind of, and put top coat on. This didn’t dry enough so I left with sticky finger nails, my toes were rushed and don’t look so great either. I was so disappointed. Then on top of all of this it cost me $ 61… and that was with 20% off from Unilocal because I checked in for the first time… I just paid $ 61 for a mani/​pedi that I now need to go get redone because I have a photo shoot in two days. I was going to give the girl a small tip because she was very nice, but she didn’t have enough small bills to give me change… I will never go back to this place and wouldn’t recommend anyone try it. Hope Spa & Nails (AMAZING! By the way) is right across the street and will for sure be my go to place from here on out… GAHHHH, if it’s not broke don’t fix it… Should have remembered this saying before trying out a new nail salon when I needed an important mani/​pedi. Lesson learned.

When I first moved downtown, Vertigi was the first salon I had visited to for my manicures and medicines. For the first few times I had gone for my manicure and pedicure it was always hard to find the location, and it was always empty. I found this last part very odd considering the good reviews it had. However, the staff was very nice and I was pleased with my services as well as the prices, they were reasonable considering the area and «atmosphere» of the salon. They also gave me free samples of Murad products!

Awesome service! I go for mani pedi’s every couple weeks and have always had great mani pedi’s and great service! I have never had to wait! I am on time for my appointments and they are always ready for me!

This is the worst hair salon I have ever been to in my life. I came to get my hair cut and colored. The cut was way too short and the color was absolutely raunchy. I called this salon and they booked me an appointment for whatever time I wanted to come in the same day. 30 minutes after I called I walked over to this hair salon and asked for balayage. The hair stylist bleached my whole head as if I asked for ombré. I kept repeating myself that I didn’t want ombré and she said «Your not a hair stylist so you wouldn’t know what I’m doing.» I’m not a hairstylist but I do have common sense. Let me remind you my hair was passed my ass crack and she cut it above my bra strap when I asked for a trim. The «ombré» she gave me was not ombré it looked like she bleached my hair in all different spots. I had patches of lighter colored hair everywhere it looked like my 12 year old sister dyed my hair. She purposely curled my hair after so I didn’t see the patches. My hair was jet black and after this extreme madness it was orange and blonde… The cut was $ 75 which is absolutely ridiculous pricing and my hair color was $ 150. After it took her 5 hours to do my hair I told her I hated it and it was not what I wanted. I also told her I kept telling her she was doing my hair not the way I wanted it and she didn’t understand. While getting my hair done she asked me and my friend who are under the drinking age if we wanted alcohol when she knew we were not 21 yet. No one came in between 2:30 — 7:15 while I was here. If that doesn’t tell you something about this salon I don’t know what does. This is the worst salon. Don’t ever go here.

Beautiful 5-​star salon. Top notch service. They make you feel and look like a celebrity! I highly recommend trying this place out. You won’t regret it!

Do you ever walk into a place, and immediately love the vibe, and meet the person you’re doing your service with, and just know that you’re going to leave very, very happy? That happened to me today, and her name is Bayle.
I went in with the intention of getting my damaged, multi tonal (we’re talking tortoiseshell cat colors here people) colored hair a root dye, with a run through of the color on the ends. But Bayle wasn’t happy just letting me get what I always get, she wanted to know what my ultimate goal was with my hair, rather than what I «wanted today» Clearly, she’s invested in the long haul and wants a long-​term relationship with her clients hair. She pulled out a book with tons of useful swatches (over 100), and when I pointed at the color I wanted, without hesitation she said «let’s get you there». Um, awesome!
More awesome, and possibly sorcery or magic: after hours of color stripping, bleaching and toning. my hair feels. softer?! Yes, softer. And I didn’t stick around for the flat iron, this is air dried, genuinely soft hair.
Bayle is the one. I am done. I don’t know how she does it, but she did it.
I am a salon veteran, and an experienced esthetician myself. Cosmetologists are like estheticians way more exciting cousins, and the experience was extremely fun and exciting. Bayle kept me informed of everything she was doing from start to end, which I greatly appreciate as a fellow beauty professional. She was both one of those hair stylists who keep you entertained and uplifted with their great personality and enthusiasm, but also have the skills that have you in heaven when you get home and can really analyze your hair. I was there for hours admittedly, and I do not regret a moment of it.
The salon itself is sleek, stark, art deco, and all types of lovely. It’s also huge and bright. The other staff were very sweet and offered me coffee and water the whole time. One thing I truly appreciated as a beauty professional, is the array of high end brands Vertigo carries. This is a fantastic sign, as it means that they value quality and the fact that different hair types have different needs, and they can easily cater to that with the array of products they use.
The parking is super simple– meters are available on the street for 50 cents an hour, or you can park all day in the building for 8 $.

Got my hair done here for the second time last week! My blonde looks great and I highly recommend getting Bayle to do your coloring, especially if you’re going lighter. I will be returning!

This review is for the nail services, which I have discovered has the WORST customer service!!!
I made an appt for 6pm on Tuesday for the next day (today). I received a call at 3pm the day of the appt asking if I could move my appt time up. This was not possible due to work commitments but I said I would do my best to be early. I then received a phone call at 430 asking the same question again to which I said I would do my best.
I ended up receiving a meeting cancellation and called the salon back at 445 saying I could come in then (75 minutes early to accommodate THEM!!) and was told that my appt was cancelled because Sonia-​the nail specialist-​had an ‘emergency’ which turned out to be her wanting to leave early.
I found the entire situation to be extremely rude and disappointing. Bottom line-don’t say you are open and offering a service until 7pm when your employees ditch out at 430. And don’t cancel right before your appointment times.
Never ever attempting to go to this place again. And recommending to friends that they don’t either.

I went here to get my nails done and I had a not so great experience. When walking in, the place was super nice and clean, with only three staff members there and one person getting a pedicure. I was running a little late but I had called in advance to let them know. The receptionist, Jane, was very nice about it. Shelly was the nail specialist and she was not that friendly. Even when I got there and sat down, she wasn’t all that welcoming. It was awkward sitting there and feeling like I was not wanted there. I got acrylics and while she did a great job putting them on, she didn’t really even ask what I wanted aside from the color and just started painting. I was afraid to tell her that I wanted a French because I didn’t want to annoy her so I let her keep painting. Then I had asked for a design and if you’re looking for a place that does nail art, this is NOT the place. She said all she can do is the basic dot flowers but not anything fancy. So then I asked her if I could do white French tips and you could tell she was not having it. I apologized for making it so hard on her and she just didn’t say anything.
Usually, nail places have a light or something for the polish to dry, but she used a miniature, tacky fan. Of course while trying to make my nails dry, a couple of them hit the table and got messed up. I apologized and asked if she could fix it and she tried just like smoothing it out and then had an attitude when she said she would have to redo one. There were two that were messed up and she just pretended like she didn’t see the second one or something and quickly rushed to redo it. Keep in mind there wasn’t anyone else waiting or anything. Then of course she quickly does it, doesn’t have anything for them to actually dry and just says they’re done and gets up and walks to the receptionist area. As I walk over there, she tells me my total and I go to grab my card from my wallet only to of course mess up a couple of them again in the process because THEY WERENT DRY as she was trying to rush me out or something. As I was over there saying «s***» because I couldn’t get the card out AND my nails looked like sh*t, she then was like «oh let me help you» to help me grab my card. I recommend checking in on Unilocal to get 20% off because it was definitely not worth the money at all. I left her a 15% tip because I felt bad for making it hard on her by asking for French tips and then asking her to redo one of them, but honestly, I don’t know why I did considering she made me feel like I was unwelcome the majority of the time. My nails look terrible and I know to never go back there to get them done. The only reason this place even gets one star is because that’s the minimum and their place was at least nice and clean.
I included an image of what they look like but you can’t see every spot that looks terrible. ⁴⁄₅ nails are absolutely horrendous. Then ²⁄₅ on the other hand aren’t good at all either. Worst experience I have had while getting my nails done. I am not happy about this at all.

There is only 1 thing you need to know about this place… Phil.
I live in NJ and when I heard I was being sent to California for work I knew I HAD to stop in because my favorite hair maven, Phil, had relocated from the East Coast and is now working here.
Phil works hard to understand not just what you want out of your cut but also what your lifestyle is like so he can make suggestions and tailor it so you can look fantastic even when he’s not there to do your «do» for you. My cut is one of Phil’s finest work on me so far and the color is to die for. Weeks later I am still getting compliments. He made sure that both were manageable for a low maintenance gal like myself and sexy at the same time. Not an easy feat.
The space is clean and beautifully appointed. The staff was incredibly nice. I can’t say enough good things about my experience here.

Loved Phil! The kind of stylist who listens to what you want, chats you up at the right moments, and allows you to relax and enjoy the experience– a perfect blend of what I like in a stylist. My hair came out perfect, the prices were on point, and I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Cool salon in the downtown LA hood. Def worth checkin out :)

OK– let me start this by saying I am SUPER picky about my hair. If you read the only other review I’ve ever posted, it was because I was raging when another salon f-​ed up my hair. I normally don’t even care enough to write a review, unless something is OMG! Outstanding or so atrocious I need to vent.
But, I need to write about how much I freaking LOVE Vertigo Salon. Phillip is my stylist (more like Artist, but whatever), and I have come to him a couple times now. When I first came to him, it was following a really awful cut and color I had gotten from someone else. My hair was DAMAGED, bleach-​out and baby fine, I remember describing it as looking and feeling like a wig made out of hay. I had no idea what to do about my hair. Phillip chatted with me in the chair, suggested and executed the perfect pixie cut to remove the damage (and it was a MUCH more flattering look), toned my duck-​yellow blonde color to a cool, icy shade and blended it PERFECTLY to my natural ashy root color (since I’m trying to grow my natural color out) and then sent me with a leave-​in conditioner from KMS that has since visibly improved the condition of my hair.
Today I got highlights to retouch/​blend my roots in again, and guess what? It is soft as silk and the color is better than anything I could have hoped for. I know when I make an appointment with Phillip, no crazy surprises or guinea-​pigging is going to happen. He just knows what he is doing. As long as Phillip is in L. A I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Phil was awesome. He really took the time to listen to me and he did exactly exactly what I asked and then some. I trusted him with the cut and he took 5lbs off my face with how he cut my hair!
I am so happy.
I even went into the bathroom to put on lipstick because my hair looked so good.
Great color, nice people. Great day!

I asked for an appointment during my lunch break and confirmed with them to make sure I can be finished within an hour. Filing and cuticles took more than 40 minutes… black french gel took more than 30 minutes… they didnt even have time to add the gold glitter I asked for. the salon is nice… but empty for a reason… never going back.

VERTIGO SALON IS AWESOME!
I just moved to LA from Miami and I recieved a Gift Certificate for Vertigo Salon for a hairshow I did. I called this salon and the staff was so warm, it was unexpected but very welcomed. :) I was acutally a few minutes late and I got put with, by chance, an amazing stylist named Phil. I have to tell you. Phil is the best! He works miracles on hair! I was not expecting to go to a MASTER colorist, but Phil knows what he’s doing and he even teaches color to others, so you can trust him. I had what you might call a botched coloring job from experienting with hair color and I told him I wanted to go blonde and he suggested highlights and thank God I trusted him because he did such a great job. Never have a found such a great colorist. I have been back since to get my highlights retouched and plan to go to him from now on :)
The prices are average and of course you get what you pay for in this world! Totally worth it … :)

Vertigo Salon is in the Penthouse floor of The Standard Oil Building on Olympic and Hope Street across from FIDM. Yesterday was my first time coming here although I have noticed their sign on their fire escape 9 floor up.
The staff is FANTASTIC! They will offer you something to drink. They have water, coffee, tea or champagne. Katy Love was my stylist and I couldn’t have been happier. I have a salon in my building but I will continue coming back to Katy.

A beautiful salon really. Located on the penthouse of the building, its like a little oasis.
However, they really need to get experts to work in each category (ie nails). The woman who did my nails was really kind but not an expert in her profession. There were times when it hurt just because she was clipping my nails — shouldn’t really be like that.
Otherwise nice staff and beautiful location. A tad overpriced, just here because I have a gift certificate but I probably wouldn’t elect to come here on my own.

The best things about this place: it’s huge, the receptionist is nice and there aren’t any other customers.
Sadly I received the worst massage of my life. Too much pressure to the point of bruising. I had to subtly ask «Can we not do that again?» The manicure was slightly above average. The nail tech was super nice and there are a lot of fun colors to choose from but she was in a rush so 3 out of 10 nails were painted poorly. Not sure why she was in a rush given I was the only non-​employee in the place.
Can’t say anything about their hair services or their facial services but it’s safe bet to go to a nail salon for nails, a threading place for hair removal, a massage place for a massage, etc. The idiom that comes to mind is «Jack of all trades. Master of none.»
