Manhattan Rickshaw

If I could give negative stars I would — caught in the rain at night these people have you under a barrel — times sq to grand central $ 50!!! When questioned I was shown a hidden from view price chart of $ 7 per minute — wtf? Once bitten twice shy — I suggest u ask for a quote before riding.

Please share this. AVOID rickshaws and pedicabs in NYC at all costs. My hotel is in midtown on 45^th Ave, which is 9 mins cycling distance or 20 mins walk to Broadway. I walked this morning so I knew how exactly close it was. After watching a show on Broadway, I didn’t feel like walking and was approached by a rickshaw driver. I saw the sign and thought it was $ 3.99 per mile. Actually it was $ 3.99 per minute that’s why the rickshaw driver was clocking his timer. He wanted to charge me $ 120 for a 25 mins ride. I debated with him. I told him it should have been max 15 mins cos I was watching the GPS on my phone the whole time. I called him out for deliberately doing circles.
I refused to pay him $ 120 for a 25 mins ride. I simply didn’t have that kind of cash on me, i counter offered $ 20. At that point, he threatened to call the cops. I got up and started walking. Mind you, because he was going in circles, I had to stop him so I was NOT even at my destination and was still couple blocks away from my hotel.
He called the cops, I didn’t care and kept walking. He left his rickshaw and started following and blocking me. He said I had to stay and wait for the cops. I insisted that I would pay him $ 20 not $ 120.
He started pushing me. I walked even faster towards a busier street where there were pedestrians and I yelled at him for pushing and touching me.
Finally I got to a busy street, and my hotel was half a block away. I told him, I would pay him $ 40, and asked him to leave me alone. He said ‘No. $ 50.’ By then my hotel was almost in front of me, I said, ‘my hotel is just there and we can wait for the cops there’. I declared ‘this is the biggest scam for what should have been a $ 5 – 10 cab ride’. He backed off.
At the very last, he took my $ 40 and said ‘Get the Fxxk out of here’.
I will share my experience on Unilocal as it should NOT be a 4 star experience per Unilocal.Please spread the words to avoid this kind of scam.
P. S. do a search on rickshaw scam in NYC — it is out of control.

My dog Delilah and I had a great time touring around Central Park with Todd. He picked us up from the hotel,

I was tasked with organizing a tour ride by any means of transportation by my cousin’s boyfriend. He was flying over to New York to propose to my cousin (both from England). He wanted something cliché like a horse and carriage ride, which I strongly persuaded him not to being an animal advocate and my cousin being a horse lover. So after researching I had seen very positive reviews on Expedia, TripPlanner and various other sites about every persons experience with pedicabs.
So then it came time to pick a company and try to sort something special out (from Boston mind you). Eventually I got in contact with Peter and Gregg at Manhattan Rickshaw and despite being off season they were responding to emails within minutes and we laid out some careful plans with 3 days notice and much to my excitement found out that they managed to secure the services of the apparently famous tour guide «Lee Buckman» top hat and all.
I got the report back from my cousin and is now fiancé that it was the best experience they’d ever had and everything went exactly as planned, Lee even open the bottle of champagne for them to toast as he stopped at a nice spot for him to get down on one knee.
These guy’s without doubt know how to organize and will stop at nothing to make sure it is a positive experience for you. They are extremely patient also which was good for me as I was panicking a little trying to make sure everything was in place.

The traffic was hellacious and couldn’t hail a cab, so I ended up getting on a pedicab! Haha… I loved it. My cousin made dinner reservations at Basta Pasta and my flight arrived late, so I was a little stressed out. Dinner was arranged for 7:30pm, so I really had to rush when I arrived at the hotel.
The poor guy was huffing and puffing when we arrived at our destination. I felt sorry for him because I kept telling him to hurry, but I tipped him really well. :)

I know my buddy didn’t want to do this touristy thing, but we both had a great time not knowing any of the movies referenced on our tour. We still are unsure exactly what Strawberry Fields is. Tell your driver you aren’t interested in hearing about where Big Daddy was filmed, that you’d rather just see the park, and you’ll have a better time. Our driver was Sergio and adorable, but often hard to understand and a bit reckless behind the wheel. While most folks would say this was a bad thing, it only added to the charm of our ride. We got the tour for $ 50, $ 10 tip. My favorite was seeing Balto and the Bathseda Fountain. The Friends’ fountain? Tiny!

I loved this, and my hat is off to our driver, who took us from the Broadhurst theatre back to our hotel near Second Ave. His chain slipped off once, but he took care of it, and he had to go up some decent hills to get us home. He limited the chatter, seeing that we really were enjoying the air rushing past us on a perfect romantic evening. I had no idea how much this would cost us, but his price was $ 15, versus $ 5 – 6 for a cab, both prices before tips. He worked hard, so we tipped him good.

I’m not giving this 5-​stars because I personally know the owner, I’m giving it 5-​stars because getting on one of these pedicabs is like a terrifying roller-​coaster ride. Who doesn’t love a roller-​coaster ride, without all the throwing up?
The pedicabs are a little terrifying at first, but once you get used to it you’ll realize how much more convenient it is than taking a taxi cab. During the strike, the pedicabs were everyone’s best friend because they got through all the traffic the taxicabs couldn’t get through.
Come to New York and enjoy one of these rides, it’s so much fun. Ok, so I closed my eyes the first time I took one, but after that, I was a pro (and this pertains only to the pedicab rides).lol
