I sincerely wish there was a Digital Photography class like this when I was learning to use my digital SLR camera. I have designed my classes around what I would change if I could go back in time. I love wine tasting tours, so why not combine these experiences with learning how to use your digital SLR camera.

In the relaxed atmosphere of a book club, we will taste some great Washington wines while I teach you what all those buttons on your camera mean. For example, how to control aperture and shutter speed and why you would want to. If those very terms intimidate you, youve come to the right place.

History

Established in 2012.

Cork and Click Photography wine tours were born out of a passion for teaching Photography and the love of wine and the wine tasting experience. Christiana Childers has been a professional photographer and teacher for over 4 years. Her method of teaching photography is very hands on, with exercises that really help anyone better understand how to use their camera and capture those moments.

Students get to learn photography and better understand how to tell a story with their photography. Teaching at the wineries gets the student out of a classroom setting. They are doing something fun and really experiencing photography as they would if they were on a vacation or out with friends.

Learning Photography should always be this fun!

Christiana has been a professional Portrait photographer and teacher for over 4 years. Her love for photography started back when she was a practicing architect. It was after she re-​located to Dublin Ireland with her husband and two daughters, that she decided to become a professional photographer. While in Dublin, with a lot of hard work, reading of boring manuals, enrolling in classes and taking her camera with her everywhere, she started to truly understand photography better.

«When I began capturing the images that I had imagined, a whole new world opened up to me. It was powerful and beautiful. I was absolutely hooked. Photography became the perfect tool to capture the stories of our adventures! It felt like a magic trick.»

Christiana now teaches photography the way she wished she could have been taught with simple hands-​on exercises, to help people capture the shots they envision.

I took the basic class and learned how to uses aperture priority, shutter speed, «film» speed (ISO) and metering. I think the comprehensive class which is an addition $ 30 should be included in the price of the beginning class and available for anyone who has taken the beginning class to take anytime it’s available after said beginning class. That is my only suggestion.

I LOVED my class with Cork & Click! I signed up for the Comprehensive class as I had previously taken a Basic class from Glazer’s where I did learn what the basic buttons on my camera meant, but I learned little else. Christiana and Ben are a lovely, warm, couple and her teaching style is super approachable so you never feel like there’s a stupid question as a beginner.
It was exciting to learn how to properly focus and the differences between aperture and shutter speed and what it means to your picture. I’ve always wanted know how to make images jump out from backgrounds, and also how to see drops of water in waterfalls, I got those tools too, and a lot more! Am I a pro at it… not yet, BUT I feel like I have tools to Get Off Auto! Beyond that, we got to taste some yummy wines (ended up buying 2 bottles!), and got a GREAT keepsake for my camera bag. I’ve already signed up for 2 more classes and cannot wait to learn more. Thanks so much for such a fun & creative time in your studio! :)

Had a wonderful time at this class yesterday. I have been wanting to take a photography class for a while now and was so pleased to leave with some new skills to master. I appreciated that the first part of the class was broken out into three sections — aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. And then Christiana combined all three of those aspects and talked about using the Manual setting. While I’m not there yet, I am inspired and feel much better equipped to get out there and start shooting «off auto»! Don’t expect to leave this class feeling like a pro, as Christiana mentioned, it has taken her years to be confident in her photography skills. But DO expect to leave this class feeling like you’re better armed to take advantage of all the features your camera may have to offer.
My one piece of feedback would be to have more practice time shooting during the class — maybe set up multiple stations so 2 – 3 people can practice at a time. Regardless, that doesn’t affect my rating because it was still great and I highly recommend! These guys host a fun class!

I was curious about all of the buttons and functions of my camera and the little icons on the screen — what did they all mean? I read the manual and watched an instructional DVD, but still didn’t understand. At the Cork & Click beginners class, Christiana and Ben explained everything simply and perfectly. The class size was small, which gave Christiana and Ben the opportunity to offer one-​on-​one tutoring, but also gave us the time to learn from others in the group. The class was informative and fun — I can’t wait to experiment with my new found photography skills.

Such a fun class! I’ve taken a beginner’s photography class in the past but this one was definitely more fun and informative. My best friend surprised me with the class for my birthday and we had a blast. Unfortunately because of time constraints we were only able to take the two-​hour beginner class but I wish we would have stayed for the last two hours to learn about composition. Also, Ben and Christina we so nice! Highly recommend this class.

Loved spending the afternoon with great people and learning a lot about my camera. I stayed for the Composition part after the Beginner class, and it was good, but not as in depth with tips and tricks. Christiana is lovely and very knowledgeable, down to earth, friendly and helpful — she engaged easily with each of us and remembered our names so the personal touch was nice. I’ll be signing up for her other classes — Lightroom and a Photo Craft class that sounds fun. So happy I made the trek out to Woodinville and the Patit Chardonnay was yummy!

Such an amazing experience… the wine was a nice additions :) The class size was very small and all questions were answered. There was no pressure to learn things right away… Christiana was very hands-​on and did not talk down to you. Thank you so much rekindling my passion for photography and taking away the fear of using my DSLR! I will definitely be attending the night in Seattle class! Can’t wait!

Such an amazing class! I took the four hour comprehensive class, and I honestly have not one negative thing to say.
My friend and I had been talking about taking a photography class for awhile, and when we stumbled upon Cork and Click, we couldn’t think of a better way to learn a new skill than to pair it with a wine tasting. I came to class as a very new beginner (I had literally never turned on my camera before). The class was not intimidating at all, and Christiana and Ben were so helpful and friendly. The class size is only 8 people, so they can individually provide hands on experience with each student. I never felt rushed or hesitant to ask questions. The wine tasting definitely added a new element of fun and friendliness to the class, too.
Christiana led the class, and you can tell that she has such a passion for the craft and is just excited to share her learning experience and the knowledge she’s gained over the years.
I left the class feeling like I had enough knowledge to start taking up photography as a hobby and can easily reach out if I have a question in the future.
Take the class — you won’t regret it!

I attended the Comprehensive Photography class offered by Cork & Click on November 7th. Despite the dreary (and typical) northwest weather, we had an excellent time! During the class, you will learn how to better use your camera while tasting a variety of wines — which were all delicious!
Christiana is an accomplished photographer with the ability to teach others how to use their cameras, apply the correct settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc) and offers hands-​on training right there during the class. Class sizes are small and intimate, which allows you to ask any questions you might have and explore the concepts she teaches.
I highly recommend this experience — and I intend to take other courses she offers in the future, including her post-​processing class as well as the night classes offered during the spring and summer months.

I can’t recommend this class enough! I’ve had my camera a long time and have never really understood how to use it. This class has renewed my interest in taking pictures and has upped my confidence. The class was small and all my questions were answered. Wine tasting was an added plus!

Best way to spend the day! Wine, photography, meeting new friends, being creative and getting to hang with Ben and Christiana in their cute cozy studio is a super fun time. Christiana is very knowledgeable and able to figure out how to use everyone’s different cameras. She puts things into perspective in a very comfortable and fun environment. We had 8 in our class and she welcomed any questions, comments or thoughts any time during the lesson. Their classes are small for a reason, very interactive. Plus… you get to walk 10steps next door to Patit Creek Winery and do several wine tastings while playing with your camera and practicing what was just taught. Photography, wine and super fun instructors… no brainer! Can’t wait to take more classes! Thank you!

This class… What can I say. THE MOST OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE! Cristiana was such a great teacher. She’s fun, upbeat, and makes the learning process so much fun. There were only 5 people in the class which made it so great to get a one on one experience with the teacher. I barely knew how to turn my camera on before coming to her class, and I’ve been taking photo’s like crazy ever since. It’s amazing how much you can learn in just 4 short hours! I’ve already signed up for another class and cannot wait! The wine is also GREAT! #GOAdaily (Get Off Auto) It makes ALL the difference in the world!

I took the comprehensive class on probably the worst weekend in the summer! The wind was blowing so hard that the power went out 5 mins into class. None of the students, including myself really noticed because this class is so hands on, that you are not stuck looking at powerpoint slides for several hours.
It was informative, and is taught by a married couple Ben and Christina. They keep the classes small, so all of the students are walked through the proper exercises, and they make sure the students understand the lesson.
There were a few couples in the class, but this would also make an amazing girls day out with a group of friends! I took the class alone, and did not feel awkward or «Third-​wheel» in any way. It was great!

Great class you leave really being able to use all of your settings and inspired as well. I feel like this class is going to change how I document my life and my loved ones as well. I haven’t been able to put my camera down since. I will definitely be going to the other classes she offers. Oh and the wine is a great bonus!!! I would give this a ten star.

***Beginning Photography Class Review***
I had the best time at Cork and Click!
I’ve had my DSLR (Canon) for a few years now but have never been able to set it to anything but Auto. This year, my boyfriend bought me a class as a birthday gift and I was excited to finally try my camera on M.
Christiana was great! She was really friendly and welcomed any and all questions (and with an intimate class of about 7, we were able to get a lot of one-​on-​one questions answered). Christiana taught us how to use our cameras, showed us some of her own photos as examples, and then we got to try it on our own at each step. I also got to learn what the other settings on the dial are for; who knew there were so many options? I definitely left with a few skills under my belt (as well as knowledge of photography vocab) and a great starting point to start my practicing. As a graduation gift, Christiana gave out handy camera cheat cards that I can attach to my camera bag, in case I have trouble remembering what we learned.
Cork and Click also offers other classes for more advanced photographers, and with their new studio about to open this summer, they’ll be able to offer an even larger variety of classes. I definitely want to go back once my skills improve.

***To add to the fun, we were able to enjoy a wine tasting from Patit Creek and they offered a 10% discount for Cork and Click students, which I definitely took advantage of. YUMM.

Great class to introduce you to the features of your camera that will get you out of the auto mode of the DSLR camera. The small class size and fun setting at the tasting room creates an atmosphere that allows for relaxed and fun learning.

I had hoped that having a DSLR camera would magically make any picture I took amazing, that wasn’t the case…until now! With the help of Christiana (and Ben) I’m finally able to understand and utilize the capabilities of my camera and the results are very noticably different. I so appreciated the laidback, hands on, personal style of the class that made something somewhat overwhelming that much easier to learn and apply. Fun, informative, and transformative experience — highly recommend!
