Wise Road Animal Hospital in Schaumburg, IL is a companion animal hospital focusing on the health and well-​being of your dog and/​or cat. Our and staff are committed to providing quality veterinary care throughout the life of your pet. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime.

Our goal is practicing the highest quality medicine and surgery with compassion, with an emphasis on client education. Our entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet owner.

History

Established in 1984.

Dr. Matt Maish opened the clinic in 1984 and in 2000 Dr. Rick DeCraene joined as his business partner. In 2009 when Dr. Maish retired, Dr. Carla Pfeiffer joined the practice.

We understand the special role your pet plays in your family and are dedicated to becoming your partner in your pet’s health care. We treat your pet as we would our own.

Business Owner

Dr. Rick DeCraene has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1990.

He joined Wise Road Animal Hospital in 2000. A native of Iowa, Dr. DeCraene grew up in the Davenport area and attended Iowa State University where he majored in Microbiology and received his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1990.

In his free time, Dr. DeCraene enjoys photography, music and hiking National parks with his wife, three children and dog, «Buster». You can find «Buster» gracing the pages of our website.

Dr. DeCraene is a member of The Society of Phi Zeta (the Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine), Omega Tau Sigma (professional veterinary fraternity), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA), and the Chicagoland Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).

I cannot say enough nice things about the vets and staff at Wise Animal Hospital.
I am newer to the area, and have been «vet hopping» since we moved here three years ago, because nobody ever made me like them enough to stay.
Unfortunately, I had to meet them during a very sad time. My 14 year old dog was battling her last days, and we took her in to see what we could do. The vets, staff, and nurses took such amazing care of not only my dog, but me. They were kind, knowledgeable, had exceptional «bed side manner», and were willing to do whatever it took to keep her comfortable but without making me feel obligated to spend tons of unnecessary money.
Even more unfortunate, I ended up having to put my poor puppy to sleep after things took a scary turn for the worst. I felt like they knew her just as long as me. They treated us like family. They made us and her comfortable. They hugged us and cried with us. It meant the world to me. They even sent me a sympathy card in the mail a few days later.
I still have an adult cat at home, and we will never be going to another vet in the area ever again. This place is simply amazing.

My dog Paulie LOVES this animal hospital and LOVES Dr. DeCraene and does not mind going to the vet at all! Dr. DeCraene is very compassionate and really responds well with my dog. Dr. DeCraene helped us out by removing some cancerous tumors from Paulie and when I picked him up Paulie was in a room on blankets with wonderful gal from the office laying with him. I couldn’t have been happier to see him with her. I would recommend Wise Road Animal Hospital to anyone. They really care about you pet as much as you do.

I just want to update again as it has been a number of years from my first review. The cats I was taking here have since passed away. The vet office took care of our cats to the very end and sent sympathy cards after each passing. I moved to Ohio but my mom still lives in the area. I cannot find a vet around me in Ohio that I like as much as my old place. So we took our newest edition with us on a road trip to see grandma and went back to my old vet. BF has been impressed both times and said «he is way better than our vet. If we lived around here, I’d take our dogs in a second.»
Dr. De Crane is awesome and will sit and explain things in such a manner that you don’t leave with questions. Staff is lovable and super friendly to the animals. I think my cat got more hugs and love from the staff then we even give him. :D
I feel so good going here and my bf was impressed that unlike our vet in OH, they don’t try to push other services or procedures. He thought the bill was going to be at least double of what it actually was. I really love this place and trust my animals fully with this staff.

I’ve brought my dog here for a check up or something he hurt his baclk two years ago when I live in Schaumburg. The doctor was very helpful and informative. Although, that Ive had time to pondered and think that he may have over reacted on my dogs blood work which cost me more money to have things checked out that really wasn’t necessary. I even took him to the Buffalo Special clinic on his referral that my dog could possibly have cushions disease. I didn’t think at that time he was that bad or the symptons wasn’t progressively bad
I’ve moved to skokie about two years ago and found an excellent Vet with good prices that doesn’t hint or imply that i spend more money on his care unless it’s really necessary. Overall the experience was good and helpful from the doctor and was on time on calls and paper work.
My dog has been in great health without much of his diet or anything being change.
I would look elsewhere in the area if i live there again.

Great place! I felt like the staff really cared about my pet. Prices are reasonable. Gone back a few times now and the people remember my pet do a great job with her. I never worry about the care because always looks happy.

This vet is amazing! She sat down for about an hour with us and our dog to talk about his behavior, eating habits, supplements that are safe, heartworm preventative, vaccines, flea/​tick medicine, and more. She wasn’t rushed and she answered all of our questions. She didn’t try to sell us product (though we bought from them, their prices are great compared to our previous vet!). We will definitely recommend this vet, her and her staff go above and beyond.

I had a bad experience at another local vet, and decided to try Wise Road Animal Hospital.
The staff and Vet were all really friendly. The vet even got down on the floor to pet my cats, and make them feel comfortable. I’ve recommended them to several of my friends, and they all love the vets there, too!
It is a bit on the pricey side, especially if your pet is having laser surgery, but it’s worth it to me to know they are well taken care of!

My Fiancé and I brough our Lab here for a check up and to be treated for an ear infection. The staff was amazing! When we made the appointment we were directed to a site where we could download a discount coupon to save on their already low new client price.
Then we were running terribly late due to traffice… nearly 2 hours! and the staff waited for us without a complaint or an extra charge.
Dr. Carla Pfeiffer was thourough and caring, explaining everything every step of the way. Not only was the visit EXTREMELY affordable (visit + rabies shot & tags + medicine = under $ 150) the care was outstanding!

My dogs love going here. The vets and the techs are so nice, my dogs dont even mind the shots they get while visiting. The prices are in line with other vets in the area — so they are average… but who wants to take their loving pets to a low priced vet anyway. I would highly reccommend this place because you can tell everyone that works there really cares about animals… and thats whats important.

A good animal hospital for all your pets. A bit expensive though. I would suggest before considerign this hospital for your pets, to check out others. The doctors here are higly educated and very good specialists.
