Greetings! My name is Carol, and I provide private tutoring for students and professionals of all ages in North Seattle.

While focusing on writing skills, I use a strengths-​based approach to support my students in achieving their academic, professional, and personal goals. I believe in meeting each individual where they are at and guiding them with structural support and «creative mining» to draw out the brilliance and intellectual gems hiding within each student.

History

Established in 2011.

I began helping students with their essays my first year of college in 2003. Writing clicked for me, and what started as casual help to friends turned into a bevy of students from my dorm at UW who would come to me for writing support on a regular basis.

During college I also volunteered at the King County Jail helping inmates prepare for their GED tests. One thing led to another, and I ended up in the social work field for a few years. Throughout my social work years, I continued to help friends with papers, admission essays, and cover letters with great success.

I officially started North Seattle Private Tutor in 2011 and it has expanded from editing, and writing support for adults to include general enrichment tutoring for elementary, junior high, and high school students as well as test preparation.

For me, tutoring is about empowering my students, and leaving them knowing they are intelligent, and capable of the work at hand.

Experience:

I have Bachelor’s Degrees in English; Creative Writing and Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington. I have experience in GED tutoring, SSAT/​SAT and ISEE Test Preparation, as well as 3 years of teaching Creative Writing at the Community Center for Alternative Programs. I have experience as a contributing writer and editor for an SSAT/​SAT Test Preparation Company. I have ten years of experience in private editing, tutoring, and mentoring in academic, writing, professional, and creative endeavors.

Aside from tutoring I am a writer, a musician, a jogger, a reader, a lifelong student (currently focusing on French and piano), and a reveler of the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
