Dig & Demo

I recently purchased a home, which has a swimming pool as deep as about 9+ feet. I talked two other companies before dig and demo. After talking to Sean from Dig and demo, I could see that, he is more knowledgeable and honest, as he gave me more options after taking a look at the pool and spa, including the city permit for using the side walk. Miguel did the work, I completely agree with the other reviewer that Miguel is very honest and really good, compared to almost all of the other contractors that hired for doing some house remodeling inside. The whole demolition work was done in less than a week. After the work was done, Even after putting all the plywoods on top of concrete, there was a crack on my side walk, I was told about this before, and is not really a surprise to me, as to start with my side walk concrete is not very thick one (i.e not good quality one) compared to my drive way concrete or the backyard concrete. And there were no cracks on my backyard concrete or drive way one. I will highly recommend them, they live up to their words, including the completion dates, unlike lot of other contractors.

There were several things I liked about this company:
— They were one of the few that actually came to look at the pool before giving an estimate.
— They have various ways of removing the pool (partial or full removal, engineered or non-​engineered fill, and optional removal of concrete) and they explained the pros and cons of each.
— We had some flowers next to the edge of the pool that we were sure would be smashed or damaged, but the backhoe operator managed to remove the entire concrete pool wall without touching them.
— After almost a year the dirt fill has not sunk and rain water still drains away from the house even after many heavy rains.
The only minor glitch we had was a mix-​up on the starting day, but I understand that because we had changed it once or twice.

I can’t imagine having a better experience with a pool demolition company. Communications were timely and perfect, and the onsite crew were professional and friendly. During a demolition, a fragment of something cracked a sliding glass door, and Dig & Demo took care of everything, communicating transparently as they went – good as new. Highly recommended.

Got a few estimates to remove our «outlived-​its-​usefulness» pool. Chose D&D as although not the cheapest they seemed reasonable & very professional. Another company seemed a bit fly-​by-​night & the words «permit» and «written estimate» never made it into the conversation. Job started off with a minor miscommunication hiccup which they apologized profusely for but after that all went well. Everybody that I saw was hard-​working & a pleasure to work with. Plus Madelyn who answers the phone is terrific!

Highly recommend. On time, professional, courteous, and clean. Miguel is one of the hardest working efficient equipment operators I have seen. Thanks again guys. Job well done!

This company does great work, we’re very happy with the pool removal. 4 stars as it says Credit cards accepted but in fact, they do not.

We had delayed our pool removal decision for several years, and finally decided that the time was right. After soliciting several quotes and reading the reviews, we chose Dig & Demo, and were delighted with the results.
Chris Burd and the whole team were completely professional, from the initial assessment to the final clean up. We are delighted with the results, and would highly recommend Dig & Demo as a first-​rate resource.
If you are thinking of removing a pool– They’re the ones to call!

I had a unique demo job (a smaller indoor pool in a commercial building) as well as the removal of an access ramp and had Dig and Demo come take a look at it. First they told me they’d get me a bid for the job by next week… next week came and they gave me a call on Friday to say they were waiting on some permit info and would get me the bid the next week, I thought it was nice that they called to say they were going to be late. Unfortunatly the next week came, and I heard nothing, called on friday and they said the bid was ‘almost done’. Another week went by without hearing anything, I called again and was told someone was finishing somethign up and they’d email it to me… another week later and still nothing, now I was getting annoyed. Maybe they don’t have my correct email I tohugh, so I sent an email to them… still nothing.
Maybe after taking a look at it, Dig and Demo wasn’t interested in the job, thats fine. It’s likely they were too busy giving 5 star service to other people. But I’ve gotten better service by the DMV before.

My husband and I bought our house a year and a half ago, which came with a pool constructed in 1978 (along with the original filtration and heating system). We seriously decided to look into having it removed this year, so I turned to Unilocal for prospective companies. I called two companies for estimates, and Dig & Demo was the only company that called me back. Their estimate was much lower than we were expecting ($ 7,300 for pool and concrete removal — we were expecting $ 8,000 — $ 10,000) and every visit and interaction with them was pleasant, quick, and professional. I was pleased that they got the paperwork sorted and permits filed quickly. It took them three days to remove the pool and complete the project, even though Miguel worked solo for two of those days. (On that note, I cannot say enough great things about Miguel. He worked nonstop, was efficient and clean and respectful, was a master with the excavator, and was overall a really nice guy.) We originally anticipated this project to be expensive, laborious, irritating, and time-​consuming but Dig & Demo made our experience very painless. I would use their services again in a heartbeat.

called around no one called back except dig and demo, and i’am glad they did. totaly happy with the work they did. great crew on time and professional, when there crew has worked for them for 12 years you know there doing something right fair priceing and licenced, would use them again except i will never have a pool again.

Originally, I had planned to have Dig and Demo demolish the pool of the house we were moving out of. I chose him because he seemed to be the most knowledgeable, professional, and easygoing contractor, and his price was very competitive. I saw photos of his previous work and thought he did an excellent job. Other contractors only demolish the pool itself, but for the same price, he also removes the surrounding concrete so the homeowner can start landscaping from scratch. He’s very patient and always quickly responds to my questions.
The day before the planned demolition, I called him to let him know that my potential tenant actually wanted a pool for the house. He was very nice and told me not to worry about him, but to just act in my own best interest. He also voluntarily offered to refund my initial deposit upon cancellation of the demolition. I was very touched by his kindness and flexibility. He truly has passion for his work and isn’t just in it for the money.
In the future, I’d definitely call him up again if I need another demolition.

Ryan and his team went above and beyond to help the organization I work for — Save Mount Diablo — demolish two houses and a pool on one of our properties. The structures were becoming a huge liability and were degrading the sensitive habitats found nearby. The project site was on the top of a knoll, with very tricky access and limited work space. We were contemplating having to take the houses down by hand $$$ but Ryan’s exceptional skills on the excavator cut down the time and cost associated with the project. Expert at pool removal — ours was teetering over a 300 ft hill/​cliff and it was demo’ed without any issues. He was great about helping us separate and recycle all materials. He even threw in a bunch of his extra time to help us complete phase 1 of our habitat restoration project. Professional, fair, straightforward. Great company and a pleasure to work with.

I would highly recommend Dig and Demo. We used them to demo our pool as well as some surrounding concrete, decking etc. and they did an amazing job. Not only were they priced competitively but they made sure the job was done to our specifications even when it ran over a day. John, Tony and crew were a pleasure to work with and always courteous. Tony made sure our yard was beautifully graded at the end, making my husbands «vision» come true. If you have a pool and need it out these are your guys!

We had Dig & Demo handle a pool removal for us. I was mostly in contact with John who was great in explaining the process and overall communication. D&D’s initial bid wasn’t the cheapest but they were able to price match with another vendor I was considering. We decided to go with D&D because of their good communication and follow up. They were very prompt and always got back to me quickly. They were able to secure the permits quickly and completed project within the time frame they stated.
The only thing I would reiterate to anyone considering this type of work is that access to the site is important and understand that these Bobcat machines are heavy!
Due to the nature of this equipment they will most likely damage concrete, grass and sprinklers in it’s path.
Our concrete driveway has scrape marks/​chips from the Bobcat machines while they were scooping the dirt and all our sprinklers and grass that were in it’s path were destroyed. So we are now looking for someone to fix this which is obviously an additional expense.
I’m not sure if there was a way to prevent this but just something to be aware of.
Other than that we were happy with the results.

We hired D&D to remove a 25K-​gallon pool that took up 85 percent of our backyard. It was an older pool from the 50s, in poor condition, and would need repair in the near future, so we decided to remove it.
I’ll begin by saying Ryan truly means it when he says he wants you to be happy. He strives to do the best work possible and follows through. Many contractors get a bad reputation for promising more than they deliver. But Ryan proves he does want to leave you satisfied with your project.
I will say though no one is perfect. There were some issues, ALBEIT MINOR, but this is why we gave D&D 4 stars versus 5.
Overall, we are very happy with the pool demolition. We can’t believe it took such a short amount of time for the pool to be demolished, debris removed, and sod and sprinkler system put in. Now we can claim our yard back and enjoy it!
Each day the work was completed as expected with minor hiccups with inspection, but this isn’t unusual when it comes to City permits.
Here are some issues, again minor but if you’re reading this you might want to be aware of some things to ask Ryan about ahead of time so you can avoid this. He does want you to be satisfied, so keep in mind all the things I’m mentioning below was resolved.
Day One: they arrived on time including Ryan and began working. It was nice to see the owner coming and not just a crew he sent. The next few days were fine, but the issues came in the form of things that were left broken around the house. The one critique I would offer D&D is the lack of communication when something was broken or used by D&D at our property. I understand certain things are unavoidable when demolition equipment comes through, but it’s the lack of communication to us after the fact that we weren’t happy about.
For example:
1. Small lock to outside breaker box was broken. We had to call him to get that replaced.
2. Our water hose was used and was poorly put back together. So badly in fact, the hose was crimped in several places.
3. The lines to the water lines that go to my plants across the sidewalk were broken. This can’t be avoided I get that with the heavy equipment, but the lack of communication was frustrating.
4. The post to the fence was cut to get the equipment in. Again I get it, that’s unavoidable. Ryan added a brace to it but the fence leans heavily towards the street.
I’d like to emphasize we realize there is no perfect construction project. However, this came very close. One thing about Ryan that stands out amongst other companies is his responsiveness!, He was very responsive via email and phone calls. He would return an email or phone call within the same day, sometimes within the hour! He even came by on the weekend to get issues resolved.
At the end of it all, we were happy our pool has been removed.

Ryan and his team (Miguel, etc.) did an exceptional job taking out our pool. Everyone involved with the demolition was professional and accommodating. From start to finish I felt comfortable with my decision and I highly recommend them.

Ryan had bid quit low on the project, and we decided to go with them based on the comments on Unilocal and his list of references. Here is how the project went. Day one, they brought in the bobcat, and started digging. Their digging machine failed. The machine operator Nick had a real attitude because his equipment wasn’t working. Let’s just say these guys don’t take their time to protect your property. During the course of the work, a water line ruptured, and none of the crew were general contractor and had no supervisor who could fix it, and thus we were left without water to us in our house for over 5 hours. If you break something, you are responsible to fix it, well not these guys, real bad business ethics.
They eventually left about five grand of concrete damage in the main drive way and in the alley on the way to the pool.

I would like to thank Wade, John and crew for a terrific job… We had a 30+ year old pool that was a true money pit… We found this company through the Diamond Certified directory… BEST choice ever! From start to finish, everyone was very professional and caring… If you have ever thought about getting rid of your pool, these guys are the BEST! They do it the RIGHT way so problems don’t happen down the line… These guys really know what they are doing! 5+ Stars!!!

Based on written proposal and site survey — we went another direction with our project so cannot comment further.
Ryan was punctual and friendly, provided very nice marketing material and followed up with an emailed proposal. Very slick and professional — nice job!

Dig and Demo completely deserves 5 stars!
We needed to demo our pool and had interviewed many companies in the area. There were those that came in with a sickle and saw and the big pool building guys.
We decided to go with Dig and Demo because they had great references (over 500+), the best price hands down (difference between them and others was anywhere from $ 3K-​5K).
The owner Ryan is wonderful to deal with – highly professional and always available to answer any questions and concerns.
Here are some quick comments on the job itself:
1. The job was done with NO glitches
2. The team that came to do the job worked really hard and had a great attitude
3. They brought heavy duty equipment that the company owns
4. The job was completed on time
5. All required permits were provided to us
6. The cleanup after was superb!
I wish there were more companies in the construction business like these guys!
