Tread

I’ve visited Tread a few times before and have always been pleased with the service I’ve received.
This past week a friend and I were swapping a headset, and realized that we had the wrong race. Tread was the closest shop, so we piled in the car to see if we could source the part we needed.
They had tons of small parts bins, but unfortunately didn’t have the correct 1.5″ race that we required. They did however, have a complete headset for sale, which had the right race.
Without even thinking about it, the parts guy opened the package, snagged the part number, and sold us the piece we needed without a hassle.
We were then able to go home, finish the install, and get out on the trails in a matter of minutes following our visit.
I really appreciate the fact that he did this. Some shops I’ve been to would have tried to hard sell me the entire headset, for the $ 27 part we needed. Kudos to you guys for being legit, and saving our ride!

I came in for the first time to get my bike tuned up. I explained to the employee that I was fairly new to mountain biking and I had a few questions. He seemed annoyed and wasn’t very informative. I explained to him my bikes front brake was rubbing against the rim. He said they can fix that not problem. They didn’t. When I picked up my bike, he pointed out another problem with my bike he couldn’t fix and didn’t really point me in the right direction to getting help for it. He kept saying how old my bike was and made it seem not worthwhile. It’s a great looking shop and fair prices for tune ups but the customer service was very sub par.

New store is nice. Helped me with a screwdriver. Had a nice chat with Stuart in repairs. Will definitely come back.

Thanks Tread for making my business trip a great experience and renting me a sweet focus road bike. Your shop has superb inventory with amazing helpful staff. Really a great local shop anyone would be happy with their experience there. Thanks again until next time.

The two-​star review is given for their bad bicycle quality and the owner didn’t even feel they needed to compensate. We rented the bicycle a little bit late at 3pm on Sunday (they are closed at 5pm). We did have great time while riding on the Los gatos creek trail towards Los Gatos downtown. But when we prepared to ride back, the front tire came off the wheel! My boyfriend almost fell down. We appreciated they came to pick us up but it reduced at least half of fun time to ride back. I won’t recommend any of my friends to rend bicycles here.

Went in for a bend rim and to look over a bike reassembly that I did. Was charged for a full bike build. May have been excessive but I have to say the mechanic found a safety issue and gave me some good advice. I’d go back because skill deserves reward. Thanks

Great place to buy a bike, and other accessories. I got a sweet SCOTT Rode bike which I love, and later a new helmet that is super comfortable, safe, and sporty. The staff there is very helpful, and the prices are very competitive. Good selection of many different types of bikes. Ford, the owner, always goes out of his way to take care of you, and even share stories of his own riding. I highly recommend Tread for anyone who owns a bike now and needs parts/​service or is looking to buy a new one.

Brought my son’s basic Walmart-​brand MB to here for service due to the unexpected discovery of a bent rear rim from his BSA Cycling Merit Badge event the week before, since we planned to do some riding in the Bay Area (we are from the San Diego area).
This shop was fast, thorough, and knowledgeable. Although the owner suggested the bike was prone to issues since it lacks the structural integrity of a serious MB, he assigned the repair to Stewart. Stewart expertly and quickly trued the rear rim, adjusted the brakes, changed out the kick-​stand and pedals (he recommended the pedals be replaced since the plastic was becoming deformed).
Initially, I was to told to possibly expect a new rim, etc., but Stewart made it all work out. Done in an hour and for less than $ 80, the entire experience was very pleasant. I even returned with my older son to get a properly sized helmet later the same day.
Thread basically saved our 2-​day visit by enabling us to ride the trails as we vacationed. I whole-​heartedly recommend this shop, especially to non-​locals who require bike service.

This outstanding review is long overdue. I’ve been a customer here since they opened, and I will continue to go here for everything! The owner is the man. Today I walked in with my bike that needed fixing. He dropped everything and fixed my bike in 10 minutes. I am up and running again for $ 13. This happens every time I need something fixed on my bikes, of which I have owned dozens over the years. He’s got a knack for precision that is hard to match. I am very happy that Tread is a part of our community. All the guys that work there under his supervision are kind and can help you with anything from rentals, mountain bike demos, sales, and repairs. Thank you Tread, and keep up the great work!

This place receives 5 stars alone for making my old and broken into a relatively new and rideable one. Also, super helpful when buying something relevant. I went by there the other day looking for a seat cover and boy was I shocked at their prices! They want $ 35 just for a seat cover and so I checked other stores over on bacon and they were able to get me a seat cover for only $ 15 which sounded much better to me!

Busted a flat riding on the Los Gatos Creek Trail nearby, so searched for bike shops on my phone and came across these guys. Walked it over and they took care of me in a snap — helpful, quick, and cheap to fix a flat and saved me from walking my forgetful ass home.

LOVE this place! Walked in earlier today and got OUTSTANDING service from Luke right off-​the-​bat. Though my budget for a helmet was around $ 100 (after all, what’s one’s head worth, right?), he still found me a great one at $ 50!
Heck, since I’m getting ready to join the world of electric bikes after not riding a bike since I was 14, I picked up some fantastic bike gloves and a Kryptonite lock … also on Luke’s recommendation.
I will *definitely* be back to get moar stuff! GREAT JOB!

The straw that broke the camel’s back.
I have always liked the shop guys at Tread but after this last experience I will never be going back. Went in to have a headset and crown race removed and replaced. Headset installation was performed without an issue. Next was star nut. Wait, it was a used fork, why would I need a star nut installed, nor did I ask for one to be installed. Well now I have 2 installed in the same fork! Lastly, remove and replace King base plate. Installed correctly, but they chose to not return the old base plate which costs $ 20 which of course I did not realize until it was too late (and needed for my next build).

The owner is very aloof and does not acknowledge you standing at the counter. Poor people skills. The young staff are very pleasant. I went in to have my back tire checked and it was like pulling teeth in communication. I almost felt like I was doing them a favor to shop in the store. I did accept to purchase a new rim and the process and supplies that go along with it. I forgot to mention my front tire was low and was very disappointed that they did not fill that tire or even check the bike chain. I will never shop at this store again. Be prepared for the owner to almost ignore you and who does not look at you when speaking. There are other bike shops close that treat the customer better.

Thank you for your response to my review. However, your claims about Tread calling me about the damaged part, and apologizing could not be any further from the truth. I would be more than happy to show you my call history. And the Tread staff did NOT apologized for anything. Like I said in my review, it was out of your control, all I was expecting were curtsey (I mean courtesy, dang it) calls. As for getting my refund, yes, it was prompt and curt.

On a side note that was not included in my response, what’s with the comment about assembling bikes thoroughly even if they are not expensive? Was my bike not expensive for her taste?

I bought my 6 year old his bike here and the staff was very helpful. They attached all the lights and adjusted his seat for him and checked all the tires, etc.
I like that they offer to do some kind of check up/​maintenance on a new bike after a month or so (which reminds me… I think I need to bring my son’s bike in).
I will admit that I do not know much about bikes, but I was happy with the service. They were pretty busy when we were there, and I did not have to wait long at all, and the staff was really helpful and friendly.
I came back a couple more times — to buy a basket for my bike, to buy lights and to buy locks. Staff put my basket on my bike for me, taught me and my friend how to use the locks (yes, we were that clueless), and sent us on our way.

I am not in love with this place. I have been here three times, once two years ago to buy a headlight, they were very helpful and had a few good options in stock. The second time was about a year and a half ago. I had just bought a road bike didn’t realize there were tube sizes yet, so I told them the bike model and they sold me the wrong size tube, I was allowed to exchange though when I returned. Today, I stopped in again, I was ignored by a young cashier who actually waited on the guy behind me making a return before me. The same kid knew very little about the products they sell. Where is the nice headlight guy when you need him?
Update: I was contacted by the owner who was trying to figure out which employee I was speaking with and which product I was referring to. I mentioned more detail about the employee and mentioned it was a garmin strap which I found online for 50% less cost. She reminded me that overhead of a business is not free, I reminded her that I am willing to pay overhead for good service. With no or bad service I just compare product pricing as that is all I am getting.
