Established in 1977.

I started cutting firewood when I was 13, then I worked for a tree service when I was 16 as a ground man, then at 17 I was forced to face my fear of heights working for another tree service and realized the money was at the top of the tree not at the bottom. I’ve built my business by enduring endless hardships and an extreme desire for perfection in the quality of work I perform and the equipment I maintain, including my fleet of vintage Ford trucks, which kinda of remind ya of the Good Old Days.

I was Born and raised in Portola Valley, then moved to Redwood City at age 16. I attended Corte Madera Elementry, Portola Valley Junior High, and Woodside High School. After becomming a Certified Arborist I enrolled in Horticulture classes at the College Of San Mateo and completed 9 differant classes maintaining a 3.87 G.P.A. I’m a lifetime member of the International Society Of Arboriculture and have been a Certified Arborist WC1714 since 1993 and accumulate 30 or more continued educational units every 3 years to maintain my certification. I have been a California State licensed contractor 638 340 D-​49 Tree Service since 1992 I’ve been climbing trees for 38 years now and at the age of 55, I’m beginning to think it’s time to start playing the Lottery ;)

I called Ed about a 40 foot tall Monterrey pine that was not looking well on one side in our backyard. Ed took one look at it and informed us that the it was infested with pine beetles and that it was too damaged to survive. I took a picture of the tree down to the city office to get a permit and the next day Ed completely removed the tree from a tight spot and left the yard cleaner than when he started.
We now use Neck of the woods to care for the other trees on our property and they all look great.

Eddie did a great job on some dead tree removal (including cutting things up as requested, and removing the rest), and some tree pruning in our yard. He also did a big tree removal job for our neighbors trees that border on our property and made sure that the area on our side was cleaned up apprpriately. Would definitely recommend his services and hope to use him again in the future.

Had trees removed, stumps grinded and a tree pruned along with planting replacement trees. Eddie, the owner & primary tree trimmer, and his crew did an excellent job in completing the work. An Arborist report was provided and submitted which was required for a permit for one of the trees for the permit. Very good suggestions were given on replacement trees. The price was very competitive and with the added value of Eddie’s overall knowledge as an Arborist, this made it even more of a value for the price. The job site was thoroughly cleaned and left looking very attractive. Overall provided much better tree service due to his knowledge, workmanship and price than the other two tree service companies I have used in past.

I needed several trees trimmed and three removed, including a too-​large Oak growing between my house’s foundation and my neighbor’s.
Like a true professional, Eddie showed up on time to give me an estimate and we agreed on a price and scheduled a day for the work to be done.
On the day the trees were to be worked on, he showed up, again, on time and he and his crew proceeded to trim and clear the trees with an attention to detail and a respect for the property that I had never seen before. He made sure to use tarps and plywood to protect my house and garden as needed and at the end of the day, cleaned up all chips and clippings better than any gardener would.
It was a two day job and both days, Eddie and his guys worked hard to get the job done with no fuss and no problems. Even when he had a stump grinder come in to take care of the several stumps, he was there the entire time and made sure the grinder did a thorough and neat job.
I can not recommend Eddie and Neck of the Woods highly enough — they tell you what they will do, show up when they say they will and get the job done as professionally as possible. Great Job!
And they have some really cool work trucks too!

I have used Neck of the Woods twice. Each time it was for tree trimming which is much more critical than just chopping down a tree. Eddie the owner does all his own work and puts a lot of care and effort into his tree trimming. Both times I was extremely pleased with the result. The larger job involved trimming multiple trees to open up a view which didn’t exist before. Due to the height of the viewing balcony you looked at the tress straight on rather than just looking up from the ground so it was important that the trees looked good too. Heads-​up, being a salesman is not Eddie’s strong point, he is more of a hands on type with a lot of knowledge. Also his prices were very reasonable.

We first used this company in the year 2000 to maintain and prune our Dutch Elm. We had Eddie return in 2003, 2006 and 2009 for the elm as well as other work. His prices are always competitive, he’s a pleasure to do business with and his work is excellent in every respect. I’m calling him now to schedule a visit and discuss more possible pruning of the elm.

I have been very pleased with work and service of this company. The owner, Eddie, is very knowledgeable, punctual, reasonably priced, and knows what he is doing. Many years ago, he had to put a huge bolt in one of my trees because it was splitting. Now, 10 years later, you can’t even see where the bolt is and the tree is as healthy as can be. He has periodically trimmed many of my trees, ground out stumps, and done other landscaping and I have always been pleased. I have referred him to many neighbors and friends and I always get positive feedback. I would recommend him.
